Synopsis:

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Molly McAdams’ powerful new novel offers one of the most memorable love triangles in fiction since Twilight—perfect for fans of New Adult fiction like Jamie McGuire, Abbi Glines, and Tamarra Webber.

Futures are uncertain, unpredictable—like ink spilled across the purest surface. Nearly imperceptible ripples move and flow until a unique stain is formed. The ink is permanently imbedded in the surface…

During one wild night in college, Jentry Michaels is a tidal wave of ink that brands Aurora Wilde’s soul. An unparalleled stain she can’t forget despite the many months that have passed—and despite the distraction she’d hoped she would find in her new relationship with Declan, the charmer who captured her heart soon after. Jentry has irrevocably touched her soul, and he is intertwined in her present and future in ways she never fathomed. Now Aurora is faced with keeping that night hidden though it feels as if the ink has indelibly etched their story across her skin.

When Declan is confronted with his own personal demons, Aurora must decide if she will continue to hold tight to their relationship and a safe, reliable future with him, or if she will turn to Jentry—the guy she can’t forget no matter how hard she tries.…

Review:

Angst-ridden, passionate, and extremely emotional!

This is a love triangle that takes you on a psychological rollercoaster ride of tension, heartache, guilt, regret, romance, and true love.

The writing is well done. The characters are distressed, hesitant, bewildered, and young. And the plot is told from differing perspectives, and moves back-and-forth between past and present, to create a deep connection and understanding of the relationships between the characters and the circumstances surrounding the predicament they find themselves in.

Overall, this is an enjoyable, easy read full of drama, chemistry, unexpected twists, surprising turns, seduction, and all-consuming love.

Review:

Extraordinarily intense, exceptionally sinister, and darkly entertaining!

This story reminds us just how much our familial relationships, environments and experiences can affect our physical and psychological health and emphasizes how fragile and complex our minds truly are.

It, ultimately, is a story about abuse, loss, death, grief, guilt, manipulation, and obsession.

The plot is told from different points of view and shifts between the past and present effortlessly creating an exciting thrill ride of twists, turns, suspense, and tension. The writing is smooth and clear. And the characters are lonely, damaged, desolate, and devious.

Overall, this is an incredibly clever, debut psychological thriller with just the right amount of mystery and eeriness to keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

Review:

Delightfully entertaining, incredibly sweet, and extraordinarily funny!

This novel takes us on a rip-roaring vacation through the beautiful Mediterranean with the Gold family, complete with ex-wives, new wives, ex-husbands, new husbands, teenage children, grown children, and of course a couple of wee grandchildren.

The writing is seamless. The characterization is perfection. There are characters you love and characters you love to hate. And the plot has a profusion of family drama, emotion, sex, friendship, adultery, secrets, humour, and romance.

This novel truly is a sweet indulgence. I devoured it. And once again, Shari Low captivated, enthralled and thoroughly amused me from start to finish.

IVF could create a baby but could it also destroy a marriage?

Cat has always been in control of her life. Happily married to Dom, but flying high as a political lobbyist, she dismisses his desire to start a family … until she herself is ready.

But what if it is then too late?

Complex and selfish, intelligent and open, if she is to succeed in having that elusive child, Cat must battle through gruelling fertility treatment and the emotional strain it places on her marriage. By her side, Dom, easygoing and ever the optimist, finds that he too risks being run ragged by their journey.

Both are forced to come to terms with their longing for a baby against the blitz on a relationship tested like never before.

Bittersweet, at times funny, and always emotionally raw, this is by far the most moving and honest novel you’ll ever read about IVF and its impact on a marriage.

Review:

Insightful, poignant, and profoundly touching!

This is an incredibly intriguing novel that delves into the emotional, physical and mental anguish experienced by those suffering infertility and the hardships and struggles involved in the process of IVF.

The prose is clear and precise. The characters are consumed, self-involved, troubled, and real. And the plot is written in a back and forth, past/present, style that gives a wonderful depth and appreciation to all the relationships and personalities in it.

Overall, this, ultimately, is a thought-provoking, moving novel about familial relationships, friendship, love, loss, jealousy, guilt, and the importance of support and communication.

Review:

Warm, sentimental, and charmingly sweet!

This is a lighthearted contemporary romance story that touches on life, love, family dynamics, secrets, loss, guilt, art, and delicious food.

Book Rating: 8/10

In his tenth outing, retired intelligence analyst Lewis Cole faces his most daunting challenge yet: Trying to save his friend Felix Tinios from being sent to death row after a conviction on first degree murder—but Felix refuses to accept Lewis’ assistance.

Felix is being charged for the brutal murder of a local businessman—witnesses place him at the location; the recovered murder weapon belonged to Felix; and his fingerprints are all over the crime scene. It seems to be the proverbial open-and-shut case, but Lewis refuses to believe his friend—even though Felix is a former enforcer for the Boston mob—was responsible.

As he engages in his one-man attempt to free his friend, two FBI agents come to him with disturbing news: they have word that unless Felix is freed from prison in just three days, he will be murdered while in custody. With time running out, the FBI nipping at his heels, and with Felix’s own lawyer refusing to help, Lewis is on his own as he desperately tries to clear his friend’s name before Felix departs prison . . . as a dead man.

Review:

Clever, intriguing, and highly suspenseful!

This is a faced-paced thriller about greed, power, murder, and corruption that definitely brings to mind the idea that ‘money is the root of all evil’.

The characters, especially Lewis, are tenacious, resilient, entertaining, and charismatic. The story is well written. And the plot is a good mix of character-driven drama and multiple twists and turns that keep you thoroughly engaged and captivated from start to finish.

I have to say this was a really enjoyable, exciting read and I highly recommend it.

Author: Ami McKay

Published by: Vintage Books Canada on Jul. 4, 2017

Genres: Historical Fiction

Pages: 504

Format: eBook, ARC

Book Rating: 8/10

The beloved, bestselling author of The Birth House and The Virgin Cure is back with her most beguiling novel yet, luring us deep inside the lives of a trio of remarkable young women navigating the glitz and grotesqueries of Gilded-Age New York by any means possible, including witchcraft…

The year is 1880. Two hundred years after the trials in Salem, Adelaide Thom (‘Moth’ from The Virgin Cure) has left her life in the sideshow to open a tea shop with another young woman who feels it’s finally safe enough to describe herself as a witch: a former medical student and “gardien de sorts” (keeper of spells), Eleanor St. Clair. Together they cater to Manhattan’s high society ladies, specializing in cures, palmistry and potions–and in guarding the secrets of their clients.

All is well until one bright September afternoon, when an enchanting young woman named Beatrice Dunn arrives at their door seeking employment. Beatrice soon becomes indispensable as Eleanor’s apprentice, but her new life with the witches is marred by strange occurrences. She sees things no one else can see. She hears voices no one else can hear. Objects appear out of thin air, as if gifts from the dead. Has she been touched by magic or is she simply losing her mind?

Eleanor wants to tread lightly and respect the magic manifest in the girl, but Adelaide sees a business opportunity. Working with Dr. Quinn Brody, a talented alienist, she submits Beatrice to a series of tests to see if she truly can talk to spirits. Amidst the witches’ tug-of-war over what’s best for her, Beatrice disappears, leaving them to wonder whether it was by choice or by force.

As Adelaide and Eleanor begin the desperate search for Beatrice, they’re confronted by accusations and spectres from their own pasts. In a time when women were corseted, confined and committed for merely speaking their minds, were any of them safe?

Review:

Dark, fascinating, and incredibly atmospheric!

This story is set in New York City in the early 1880s, a time when building and bridge development was rampant, immigration was ongoing, and the Statue of Liberty was still only a torch-bearing arm displayed in Madison Square Park. However, it was also a time of religious condemnation, fear of the unknown, and a time when cruel and barbaric behaviour towards women who didn’t conform to what society deemed norm was still acceptable.

The writing is elegant and vividly descriptive. The three main characters, Adelaide, Eleanor, and Beatrice, are strong, bold, and independent. And the plot is a creative, dark, mysterious ride of historical tidbits, mystical occurrences, friendship, murder, witchcraft, and love.

This definitely is an enjoyable read that sweeps you away to another place and reminds you of some of the hardships and struggles of a different time. If you haven’t had the opportunity to read anything else by Ami McKay, I highly recommend “The Virgin Cure” still today one of my all-time favourites.

About Kathy Clark

Kathy Clark has always been a storyteller. She completed her first novel when she was four years old and self-published it the same year. The Little Black Horse That Ran Away was self-illustrated and sold out of its first printing. Thanks Mom!

Since then, a total of twenty-three novels published by Dell, Crown, and Harlequin happened. With her husband Bob Wernly as a co-writer, they published (both traditionally and epub) an additional fourteen novels.

Nine of these fourteen books were self-published in the romantic suspense, young adult and erotic romance genres. The remaining five published by Random House LLC as the Denver Heroes and Austin Heroes, released in 2015 and throughout 2016.

The author team are currently developing a new contemporary romance series (with a suspense backdrop) titled Breathless. High altitude, high stakes, and high romance, the series will begin in 2017 with the first book, Fools Gold . The series is set in Cripple Creek, Colorado.

Their young adult genre series, Time Shifters, is a time travel romance-mystery series. The fifth book in the award winning series, Not My Life releases 10.18.16.

Finally, their new adult romantic suspense series, Scandals, currently has the first three books released.

With two people developing ideas, plotting, researching, writing and editing, Kathy and Bob are both busy and productive. To be perfectly honest, Kathy and Bob would rather be riding horses, sitting on a sandy beach, watching movies or plays, and playing a round of golf every few days. But the voices in their heads insist on coming out, so they keep writing.
