Archie barked and in the next second, Donella fell against his chest. He managed to release her hand and place it on her waist to steady her.

For a few beats,they remained that way, her chest against his front, his hand just above the curve of her hip. His heart pounded, and as Donella’s sweet feminine scent filled his nose, he nearly lowered his head to nuzzle her cheek.

However, Donella raised her face so she could meet his gaze again. Between her flushed cheeks and soft body, he leaneda fraction closer to her lips. Catching himself, he froze.

Robbie opened his mouth to apologize, but Donella spoke first. “Just kiss me, Robbie. I’m tired of wondering.”

There were plenty of reasons why he should step away and refuse. After all, the best way to protect Ruby was to keep others away from her. If he never fell in love with a woman again, there was no risk of breaking his daughter’s heart if something went wrong.
