Nothing ruins an ocean view like a body on the beach!

Plum Lockhart went out on a limb when she ditched her corporate job in New York City and moved to the Caribbean island of Paraiso. Now the head of her own villa broker agency, Plum spends her days chasing down clients and lounging on white sand beaches.

But the sweet life turns sour when a publishing heiress is found dead at the mansion of an eccentric tycoon, Dieter Friedrich. Even worse, Plum’s old colleague cashes in a favor and asks her to investigate. It looks like she’ll need to fit a murder case into her already jam-packed schedule!
Friedrich is known for his shady dealings, but he’s not the only bad apple on the island—Plum will have to contend with a scheming millionaire, a sleazy rockstar, and devious B-list celebrities. And joining Plum once again is Juan Kevin Munoz, the distractingly gorgeous Director of Security. Despite the sparks between them, they’ll need to stay focused on the case—there’s a murderer hot on their heels!

Review:

Cosy, mysterious, and lush!

In this latest novel in the Trouble in Paradise series, Something’s Guava Give, we head back to the beautiful island of Paraiso and into the life of Plum Lockhart as she once again finds herself unexpectedly tied up in a murder investigation and working with the handsome Director of Security, Juan Kevin Muñoz when a publishing heiress she tried to help out of some legal trouble winds up murdered while staying at the villa of the rich and famous Dieter Friedrich where she had only recently relocated.

The writing style is fluid and fun. The characters are inquisitive, spontaneous, and intelligent. And the plot is a lighthearted, quirky tale brimming with suspicious personalities, island living, misdirection, amateur sleuthing, flirtation, deduction, and murder.

Overall, I found Something’s Guava Give to be another entertaining, humorous, easy tale by Doyle that was certainly a refreshing read between all the dark, gritty, psychological thrillers that seem to be filling up my TBR at the moment.

It’s all fun in the sun until someone turns up dead

After Plum Lockhart’s job as a travel magazine editor is eliminated in corporate cuts, she decides she’s sick of cold winters in NYC and fruitless swiping on dating apps—what she needs is a dramatic change of scenery. On a whim, she accepts a job as a villa broker and moves to a beautiful Caribbean island.

However, paradise isn’t as perfect as it seems: the slow pace of island life, the language barrier, and a cutthroat office rival make Plum question leaving her old life behind. But when a client is found dead in the jacuzzi of Casa Mango—a property Plum manages—she knows she’s really in a jam. With a killer loose on the island Plum will have to deal with a stonewalling police chief, a string of baffling clues, and a handsome Director of Security to solve this deadly case!

Review:

Atmospheric, witty, and highly entertaining!

It Takes Two to Mango is a cosy murder mystery set on a beautiful island in the Caribbean that features Plum Lockhart, a magazine editor who, after losing her coveted job in NYC, heads to Paraiso to work as a villa broker at a luxurious resort. But things don’t go as smoothly as she would have liked, and after one of her first renters dies under mysterious circumstances, she will have to join together with the patient, hunky Director of Security, Juan Kevin Muñoz, to try and solve the case as quickly as possible.

The writing style is light and whimsical. The characters are sharp, quirky, and impulsive. And the plot is a pacey whodunit full of amateur sleuthing, red herrings, deduction, attraction, suspects, island living, and new beginnings.

It Takes Two to Mango is the first book in the Trouble in Paradise! series, and if you enjoy a charming mystery with idyllic settings, unique characters, and a touch of romance, then this novel is definitely the perfect choice. It’s a fun, quick, enjoyable read, and I am definitely looking forward to reading whatever Doyle decides to cook up for these characters next.

What if your best friend and roommate killed a teacher at your prep school? Or what if he didn’t do it, but he’s being framed, and you’re the only person who can save him?

Luke Chase didn’t mean to get caught up solving the mystery of Mrs. Heckler’s murder. He just wanted to spend alone time with the new British girl at their boarding school.

But little did he know someone would end up dead right next to their rendezvous spot in the woods, and his best friend and roommate Oscar Weymouth would be the one to take the blame. With suspects aplenty and a past that’s anything but innocent, Luke Chase reluctantly calls on his famous survival skills to solve the mystery and find the true killer.

Review:

Mysterious, twisty, and well-paced!

The Murder Game is an intriguing murder mystery that transports you to St. Benedict’s boarding school in eastern Connecticut and into the life of Luke Chase, a teenage student who, after a faculty member is found murdered and his roommate becomes the prime suspect, decides to conduct his own investigation to discover the real culprit and to prove his friend’s innocence once and for all.

The writing is light and smooth. The characters are intelligent, resourceful, and impulsive. And the plot is a creative whodunit full of amateur sleuthing, dangerous situations, suspects, deduction, friendship, secrets, and murder.

Overall, The Murder Game is a quick, engaging, sinister YA thriller by Doyle that is satisfying and entertaining as long as you’re able to suspend disbelief for a little while.
