At midnight, one of them is dead.
By morning, all of them are suspects.

It’s a party to end all parties, but not everyone is here to celebrate.

On New Year’s Eve, Rhys Lloyd has a house full of guests. His vacation homes on Mirror Lake are a success, and he’s generously invited the village to drink champagne with their wealthy new neighbors.

But by midnight, Rhys will be floating dead in the freezing waters of the lake.

On New Year’s Day, Ffion Morgan has a village full of suspects. The tiny community is her home, so the suspects are her neighbors, friends and family—and Ffion has her own secrets to protect.

With a lie uncovered at every turn, soon the question isn’t who wanted Rhys dead…but who finally killed him.

In a village with this many secrets, murder is just the beginning.

Review:

Simmering, tight, and intriguing!

The Last Party is a tense, menacing police procedural that takes us to North Wales, where DC Ffion Morgan will have to team up with DC Leo Brady from the Cheshire Constabulary when the body of the previously famous opera singer Rhys Lloyd is found floating in Mirror Lake on New Years Day and the investigation quickly unearths secrets that point to him being a victim of misfortune, infidelity, and revenge or possibly a predator himself who through the years has preyed on anyone more vulnerable.

The prose is atmospheric and gritty. The characters are secretive, scarred, and impulsive. And the plot, including all the subplots, intertwine and unravel steadily into a sinister tale full of twists, turns, deception, revelations, emotion, violence, and murder.

The Last Party is the first book in the new DC Morgan series, and as I’m a huge fan of Mackintosh’s standalone thrillers, I’m interested and intrigued to read any and all of the next instalments to see how these characters will further develop and where she might actually take them.

You can save hundreds of lives. Or the one that matters most.

A claustrophobic thriller set over twenty hours on one airplane flight, with the heart-stopping tension of The Last Flight and the wrenching emotional intensity of Room, Hostage takes us on board the inaugural nonstop flight from London to Sydney.

Mina is trying to focus on her job as a flight attendant, not the problems of her five-year-old daughter back home, or the fissures in her marriage. But the plane has barely taken off when Mina receives a chilling note from an anonymous passenger, someone intent on ensuring the plane never reaches its destination. Someone who needs Mina’s assistance and who knows exactly how to make her comply.

It’s twenty hours to landing. A lot can happen in twenty hours.

Review:

Intense, propulsive, and terrifyingly realistic!

Hostage is a menacing, locked-door thriller that sweeps you 35,000 feet up into the air and onto World Airways Flight 79 as it makes its inaugural 20-hour nonstop flight from London to Sydney with 353 excited passengers, a conscientious cabin crew, an attentive, desperate mother of a child targeted by terrorists, and a cunning, manipulative environmentalist who’s determined this flight may never reach its destination.

The prose is sharp and crisp. The characters are distraught, frightened, and courageous. And the plot told from multiple perspectives unfolds and unravels quickly into a suspenseful tale of unforeseen twists, well-timed surprises, moral dilemmas, mind games, manipulation, tension, unease, violence, and murder.

Overall, Hostage is without a doubt a clever, claustrophobic, masterfully plotted page-turner that keeps you on the edge of your seat from the very first page and ultimately leaves you surprised, shocked, thoroughly entertained, and if you’re like me, ready to start it all over again to figure out what you possibly could have missed the first time around.

You do the same thing every day.

You know exactly where you’re going.

You’re not alone.

When Zoe Walker sees her photo in the classifieds section of a London newspaper, she is determined to find out why it’s there. There’s no explanation: just a website, a grainy image and a phone number. She takes it home to her family, who are convinced it’s just someone who looks like Zoe. But the next day the advert shows a photo of a different woman, and another the day after that.

Is it a mistake? A coincidence? Or is someone keeping track of every move they make . . .

I See You is an edge-of-your-seat, page-turning psychological thriller from one of the most exciting and successful British debut talents of 2015.

Review:

Well crafted, intense and incredibly riveting!

This is an engrossing hair-raising thriller that touches on just how much people are creatures of habit and how vulnerable that routine behaviour truly makes us. It is a story about jealousy, greed, manipulation, trust, deception, violence, and murder.

The characters are complex, multi-layered, and determined. The writing is well done. And the plot builds nicely and shifts effortlessly as it alternates between the heroine’s point of view and the ongoing investigation, interspersed with the occasional perpetrator’s point of view which continues to elevate the tension and creepiness throughout.

I would have to say this truly is a well written suspenseful mystery that highlights the perverse and nefarious side of human nature and has enough twists, turns and surprises to make it a definite must read in my book.
