Synopsis:

‘Kate Marsden: nurse, intrepid adventurer, saviour of the lepers or devious manipulator, immoral and dishonest?’

As she lies on her deathbed visited by the ghosts of her past, who should we believe, Kate or those who accuse her of duplicity? Memory is a fickle thing: recollections may be frozen in time or distorted by the mirror of wishful thinking. Kate’s own story is one of incredible achievements, illicit love affairs and desperate longing; those of her accusers paint a very different portrait – of a woman determined on fame and fortune.

The reader navigates a narrative as fractured as the Siberian ice Kate crosses in search of a cure for leprosy, and as beautiful as Rose, her lost love, as the full picture emerges of a life lived when women were not expected to break the mould.

Review:

Insightful, engaging, and intriguing!

God’s Children is a fascinating interpretation about the life of Kate Marsden, a British nurse who in 1891 travelled across the Siberian wilderness to find a cure for Leprosy and to raise funds for the construction of a hospital where those afflicted with this degenerative disease could find care and comfort.

The prose is clear and precise. The characters are devout, steadfast, and independent. And the plot using a past/present style sweeps you back and forth between the late-1800s and early-1900s through a world filled with forbidden love, loss, deception, manipulation, riches, power, loneliness, hope, courage, and scandal.

I have to admit that I knew very little about Kate Marsden when I started God’s Children but Roberts did such a wonderful job of blending historical facts with compelling fiction that I was not only left entertained but questioning whether Marsden was truly a missionary with a pure heart or merely a selfish woman seeking a life above her means.

Funny, colourful, and reflective!

One Last Greek Summer is an engaging, summery read that takes us to the lovely island of Corfu and into the life of Beth Martin as she meanders through the loss of her mother, a recent divorce, a potential change of career, a rekindled romance from the past, and a holiday with her best friend Heidi where nothing goes as planned.

Review:

Atmospheric, tender, and hopeful!

The Baobab Beach Retreat is a warm, sweet, emotive tale set in the beautiful country of Tanzania that takes us into the life of the heartbroken, embittered Connie as she flees to her Aunt’s resort to rejuvenate after a painful divorce, recuperate from years of infertility, embark on a new career, and perhaps even fall in love once again.

Synopsis:

Dear Sexy AF Intern,

I know you don’t particularly care that I’m the CEO of this company, and you’re just an intern. I also know you’re not impressed by my power or my wealth, and that’s fine.

You think you’ve got me all figured out from working alongside me for two weeks, but you don’t know me. Not really.

You don’t know that I’m a single dad to twin toddlers, or that those two little girls matter more to me than this entire hotel chain.

I’m not interested in starting something deep and meaningful, but what I am interested in is the way your body reacts to mine when we’re in the same room. You probably assume the concentration on my face is work-related, when in reality, I’m figuring out which I want more–to nail you against the wall, or to bend you over my desk.

While you’re too disciplined to act on it, I’m not. And the night you stepped into my limo, all bets were off.

Review:

Sultry, seductive, and sweet!

The Two-Week Arrangement is the deliciously alluring, new novel by Ryan that introduces us to the private, young, intense CEO Dominic and the beautiful, hardworking, intern Presley as they quickly discover the pull of temptation and the power of attraction.

The writing is tantalizing and sassy. The characters are feisty, intriguing, and endearing. And the plot is an entertaining mix of family, friendship, parenthood, light drama, tender moments, sizzling chemistry, sexy innuendoes, witty dialogue, and irresistible heat.

The Two-Week Arrangement is without a doubt a spicy, heartwarming, teasing start to Dominic and Presley’s story that has left me not so patiently waiting for the release of Seven Nights of Sin, publishing June 25, 2019, to discover whether this plus-one, no-strings arrangement actually turns into the steamy, swoon-worthy, happy-ever-after ending I’m hoping for.

Synopsis:

Ten years ago, Lena Donohue experienced a wedding-day betrayal so painful that she fled the small town of Watersend, South Carolina, and reinvented herself in New York City. Though now a freelance travel writer, the one place she rarely goes is home–until she learns of her dad’s failing health.

Returning to Watersend means seeing the sister she has avoided for a decade and the brother who runs the family’s Irish pub and has borne the burden of his sisters’ rift. While Alzheimer’s slowly steals their father’s memories, the siblings rush to preserve his life in stories and in photographs. As his secret past brings Lena’s own childhood into focus, it sends her on a journey to discover the true meaning of home.

Review:

Absorbing, heartfelt, and tender!

The Favorite Daughter is a touching, hopeful novel that delves into the complicated relationship between members of a family and highlights that there really is no place like home.

The prose is evocative and warm. The characters are troubled, supportive, and genuine. And the plot is an affecting tale about life, love, family, friendship, deception, betrayal, heartbreak, community, romance, and the difficulties and struggles Alzheimer’s presents.

Overall, The Favorite Daughter is a compelling, satisfying, lovely tale by Callahan Henry that ultimately reminds us that sharing, capturing, and remembering all those special moments in time, good or bad, is truly what life is all about.

Review:

Sweet, cosy, and adorably romantic!

Edie Browne’s Cottage by the Sea is a charming, uplifting read that takes us to St. Aiden and into the life of the determined, optimistic Edie Browne as she struggles to recover, relearn, and reclaim the high-flying life she had before the stroke with the help of her Aunty Jo, a whole gaggle of supportive, meddling villagers, and a ruggedly handsome neighbour.

The writing is effortless and vivid. The characters are fun-loving, authentic, and amusing. And the plot is a delightfully witty tale about life, love, family, friendship, self-discovery, community, happiness, and taking chances.

About Jane Linfoot

Jane Linfoot is a best selling author, who lives in a muddy cottage, up a steep hill in Derbyshire, with her family, their pets, and an astonishing number of spiders. Although she loves seeing cow noses over the garden wall, she’s happy she can walk to a supermarket.
Jane grew up in North Yorkshire where she spent a lot of her childhood avoiding horizontal gales blowing off the sea, and wrote her first book by accident, while working as an architect, and renovating country houses. While she loves to write feelgood books that let readers escape, she’s always surprised to hear her stories make people laugh, admits to (occasionally) crying as she writes, and credits her characters for creating their own story lines.
Jane’s garden would be less brambly if she wasn’t on Facebook and Twitter so often. On days when she wants to be really scared, she rides a tandem.
Her latest books include a series of stand alone novels, based around a seaside wedding shop in Cornwall. Cupcakes and Confetti – The Little Wedding Shop by the Sea, Sequins and Snowflakes – Christmas at the Little Wedding Shop, and Bunting and Bouquets – Summer at the Little Wedding Shop, and most recently, The Little Cornish Kitchen. Synopsis:

ERIK

The white picket fence.
The happily-ever-after.
That life was never meant for him.
For years he’s been bouncing from city to city—from one cage fight to another.
That’s his outlet. That’s pain Erik can control.
But in Seattle, everything changed.
River’s an artist.
He’s a pretty boy.
He does yoga.
Someone so soft shouldn’t be intrigued by Erik’s rough edges.

RIVER

His life was quiet. He had a simple routine.
Designing tattoos, avoiding drama. Well, mostly.
Then Erik comes along—scarred and dangerous, shrouded in mystery.
A mystery River can’t resist trying to solve.
Maybe a secret as dark as his own.
Neither of them expected a relationship so complicated, so intense.
Neither of them expected…each other.
Erik and River are both trying to escape a shadowed past.
But the thing about shadows is: the faster you run, the faster they chase you.

Review:

Dark, dramatic, and gritty!

Shadows You Left is a sultry, character-driven romance that takes you on a journey into the lives of Erik and River, two tormented and tortured souls who together discover the comfort, solace, and unconditional love they each need to battle all their internal demons.

The prose is poetic and enticing. The characters are consumed, damaged, and impulsive. And the plot told from alternating POVs is a somber tale of friendship, family, addiction, hope, patience, violence, grief, heartbreak, and the art of tattooing.

I have to admit this was a really tough one for me. There is no doubt that Sierra and Brooke can write a beautiful story about unconventional relationships that push people to understand and accept that there is no one norm when it comes to loving another person. And even though I am confident that some readers will absolutely love the tragic gloominess of Shadows You Left, unfortunately for me it was a tad too long and a little too stormy for me to enjoy it as much as I would have liked.

Sweet, sassy, and inspiring!

Probably the Best Kiss in the World is a thoughtful, heartfelt tale about rediscovering one’s self, taking chances, following your dreams, and the special bond between sisters.

Synopsis:

In the courtroom, they’re rivals. In the bedroom, they’re . . . divorced. But could the road trip from hell lead to a second chance at love?

Aubrey Gates is the hottest divorce lawyer in Chicago, a barb-tongued stiletto with legs that go on for miles. When her cool gray eyes meet mine across the battlefield, I want her like I’ve never wanted anyone or anything. Then I remember who she is: the woman who brought me to my knees. The woman who destroyed my faith in relationships.

The woman I used to call . . . wife.

And she needs a favor from me, Grant Lincoln.

It seems my ex forgot to mention the demise of our marriage to her dear old grammie, and now we’re both expected to attend her ninetieth birthday party. In Boston. And because it isn’t already awkward enough, Aubrey and I are driving there together from Chicago. That’s more than a thousand miles of tension, heartbreak, and barely concealed lust.

A little piece of paper might say we’re over, but this road trip is the true test. I intend to get my wife back . . . and I won’t stop until “I do.”

Review:

Sincere, steamy, and emotional!

Then Came You is a heartwarming, second-chance romance between the intelligent, handsome Grant and the stubborn, fiery Aubrey as they discover that the heart wants who the heart wants and that some things are definitely worth the fight.

The writing is clear and genuine. The characters are determined, spirited, and troubled. And the plot told from alternating POVs is a heartfelt tale full of familial drama, loss, love, grief, friction, miscommunication, self-reflection, appreciation, acceptance, forgiveness, new beginnings, and searing romance.

Overall, Then Came You is another sweet, playful, sexy read by Meader with characters you can’t help but root for and a swoon-worthy ending that leaves you smitten, satisfied, and hoping for more.

Review:

Steamy, sultry, and laugh-out-loud funny!

Top Secret is a charmingly spicy, enemies-to-more romance featuring the fun-loving, jock Keaton who’s decided to make all his girlfriend’s birthday wishes come true, and the sexy, secretive Luke who may just be the perfect man for the job.

The characters are witty, adventurous, and amusing. The writing is bold, whimsical and uses a delightful mixture of snappy dialogue, text messages, and narration. And the plot is a delicious blend of tension, humour, sexual innuendoes, sizzling chemistry, flirty banter, familial drama, friendship, competition, tricky situations, awkward moments, and college life.

Overall, Top Secret is another humorous, provocative, tantalizing novel by Bowen and Kennedy that once again proves that when these two brilliant authors get together, the end result is always dynamite.
