EXCERPT:

Luke Hudson leaned against his patrol car, which was parked in front of my Corolla. His head was bent over a little black book as he scribbled something. I had a moment of panic when I saw him rip off the paper and tuck it under my windshield wipers. I glanced around for a parking sign to see if I had parked there for too long. I jogged the last few steps to Luke and placed my hand on his arm, feeling a little spark of electricity, I pulled my hand back in surprise. Something intense flared in his eyes as he turned his attention to me.

“Sorry, am I not supposed to park here?” I asked, nervously licking my suddenly dry lips.

“It’s only four-hour parking,” Luke answered tipping his head towards the parking sign in front of his vehicle.

I cringed when I saw the sign, “I’m sorry, I didn’t even see that. I don’t use the car much either.” Everything in Chestertown was within walking distance.

“There’s a lot behind the courthouse you can use for extended parking if you want,” Luke offered, helpfully pointing in the direction of lawyers’ row. Next to the courthouse, there was a line of one-story attached buildings housing one law firm after another. At the end of the street, I could see a lot.

“Okay, thanks,” I pulled the parking ticket off of my window. I knew there was nothing I could say to get out of the ticket now that he had written it. I didn’t read it because Luke stared down at me with eyes piercing right through me. His presence was overwhelming.

Luke looked at the Inn, “Are you staying here?”

“Yes, just temporarily,” I answered.

“Do you need some help to find a place?”

“Oh no, Ashley from work referred me to Samantha. She has an apartment over the bakery,” I explained pointing in the direction of the bakery and suddenly feeling stupid. Surely he knew there was an available apartment above the bakery. It was a small town, after all.

“Okay, good. Let me know if you need any help with anything since you’re new to town.” He placed a hand on my shoulder and turned to go. His brief touch caused an involuntary shiver through my body.

I was used to doing things for myself and not relying on anyone, but I liked his concern. Luke was already walking towards his vehicle and pulling open the door when I called after him, “Thank you for the offer though.” I gave him a small smile.

He nodded and his lips twitched with the beginning of a smile. He nodded at the paper I still clutched in my hands, “Don’t forget to take care of that.” Then he got into his car and pulled out into the street. I watched him go and then I glanced down at the paper, which I had forgotten about until he mentioned it. I open the folded paper which looked like a parking ticket on the back, but instead of my information written out on the front of the ticket, there was a hand drawn picture.

Synopsis:

One hard-nosed military police officer.

One overly enthusiastic elf.

One poorly timed snowstorm.

Is it a recipe for disaster? Or a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for holiday romance?

Teddy MacNally loves Christmas and everything that goes along with it. When he plays an elf for his charity’s events, he never expects to be paired with a Scrooge masquerading as Santa Claus. His new mission: make the holiday-hating soldier believe he was born to say ho-ho-ho.

Sergeant Major Nicholas Nowicki doesn’t do Santa, but he’s army to his blood. When his CO asks an unusual favor, Nick of course obliges. The elf to his Kris Kringle? Tempting. Too tempting—Nick’s only in town for another month, and Teddy’s too young, too cheerful and too nice for a one-night stand.

The slow, sexy make-out sessions while Teddy and Nick are alone and snowbound, though, feel like anything but a quick hookup. As a stress-free holiday fling turns into Christmas all year round, Teddy can’t imagine his life without Nick. And Nick’s days on the base may be coming to a close, but he doesn’t plan on leaving anything, or anyone, behind.

Review:

Warm, romantic, and festive!

Better Not Pout is a sweet, tender, captivating novel that features the kindhearted, fun-loving Teddy, and the grouchy, mature Nick as they discover that the heart wants whom the heart wants, and sometimes opposites really do attract.

The writing is heartfelt and comforting. The characters are winsome, dependable, and genuine. And the lighthearted plot is a charming mix of undeniable attraction, sizzling chemistry, Christmas celebrations, charity, patience, understanding, new journeys, and taking chances.

Overall, Better Not Pout is a delightfully merry, passionate, humorous tale that reminds us that the holiday season is truly a time for family, magic, love, and giving.

Review:

Jolly, big-hearted, and delightfully fabulous!

Love and Lies at the Village Christmas Shop is an amusing, heartwarming tale that takes us back to Marram Bay and into the life of the thoughtful, optimistic Ivy Jones as she struggles to keep her mother’s Christmas shop alive and out of the hands of the mysterious, yet charmingly handsome businessman who’s suddenly moved to town.

The prose is polished and effortless. The characterization is spot on with a cast of characters that are unique, fun-loving, and adorable. And the plot is an irresistible blend of heart, humour, nostalgic moments, family, friendship, tension, loyalty, attraction, chemistry, wonderful shenanigans, community spirit, and Christmas cheer.

EXCERPT:

She stood on tiptoe and reached to put the glass away in the cupboard, but she wasn’t quite tall enough. The glass fumbled in her fingertips.

It was pure reaction. I stepped behind her and caught it before it shattered on the tile floor.

Then the back of her body was against me and the reaction was immediate. My dick instantly hard, I sucked in a breath of pure fucking female, and she froze.

“Thanks,” she whispered, every muscle in her body going taut.

“Welcome,” I rasped, shoving the glass onto the shelf, telling myself to step the fuck back. But before I could put distance between us, she shocked the fuck out of me for the second time.

She leaned into me. Her head under my chin, her body tucked in to mine, she put her hand on my thigh.

“Brookelyn,” I warned.

Her voice even quieter. “What?”

Jesus, she was small. “What are you doing?” The top of her head barely grazed my pecs. With all of her wild hair and baggy clothes, I hadn’t realized how fucking petite she actually was.

Pressing in to me with deliberate intent, she squeezed my leg. “Something I shouldn’t.”

Synopsis:

In her brand-new series, Brenda Jackson welcomes you to Catalina Cove, where even the biggest heartbreaks can be healed…

In the wake of a devastating teen pregnancy that left her childless and heartbroken, Vashti Alcindor left Catalina Cove, Louisiana, with no plans to return. Now, over a decade later, Vashti reluctantly finds herself back in her hometown after inheriting her aunt’s B and B. Her homecoming gets off to a rocky start when the new sheriff, Sawyer Grisham, pulls her over for speeding, and things go downhill from there.

The B and B, a place she’d always found refuge in when it seemed like the whole world was against her, has fallen into disrepair. When a surprising benefactor encourages Vashti to reopen the B and B, Vashti embraces a fresh start, and soon old hurts begin to fade as she makes new memories with the town—and its handsome sheriff…

But some pasts are too big to escape, and when a bombshell of a secret changes everything she thought was true, Vashti is left reeling. With Sawyer and his teenage daughter determined to see her through the storm, though, she’s learning family isn’t always a matter of blood—sometimes it’s a matter of heart.

Review:

Dramatic, romantic, and uplifting!

Love in Catalina Cove is an engaging, lighthearted read that takes us to coastal Louisiana and into the life of Vashti Alcindor as she meanders through all sorts of highs and lows, including a recent divorce, being laid off, reopening her aunt’s B&B, a blossoming courtship, and returning to the hometown that shunned her following a teen pregnancy.

And the plot, although a little slow to start, is a heartwarming tale with a sliver of mystery that’s full of tricky situations, tender moments, self-discovery, friendship, family, community, acceptance, revelations, happiness, slow-burning romance, and scrumptious blueberry delights.

Overall, Love in Catalina Cove is a passionate, heartfelt start to this new series by Jackson that has a large, intriguing cast of characters that I look forward to reading more about in Forget Me Not (Catalina Cove #2) due to be published in Spring 2019.

Synopsis:

Set on the scenic fjords of Norway, The Christmas Lights by bestselling author Karen Swan is a moving Christmas tale of love and heartbreak.

December 2018, and free-spirited Influencers Bo Loxley and her partner Zac are living a life of wanderlust, travelling the globe and sharing their adventures with their millions of fans. Booked to spend Christmas in the Norwegian fjords, they set up home in a remote farm owned by enigmatic mountain guide Anders and his fierce grandmother Signy. Surrounded by snowy peaks and frozen falls, everything should be perfect. But the camera can lie and with every new post, the ‘perfect’ life Zac and Bo are portraying is diverging from the truth. Something Bo can’t explain is wrong at the very heart of their lives and Anders is the only person who’ll listen.

June 1936, and fourteen-year old Signy is sent with her sister and village friends to the summer pastures to work as milkmaids, protecting the herd that will sustain the farm through the long, winter months. But miles from home and away from the safety of their families, threat begins to lurk in friendly faces . . .

The mountains keep secrets – Signy knows this better than anyone – and as Bo’s life begins to spiral she is forced, like the old woman before her, to question who is friend and who is foe.

Review:

Alluring, mysterious, and delightfully festive!

The Christmas Lights is an atmospheric, compelling tale set in Norway during 1936, as well as the present day, and is told from two different perspectives. Bo, a young reality star unnerved by an obsessed, online stalker and struggling to enjoy a life that lacks privacy, and Signy a sweet, country girl who learns at a young age the dangers that hide on the hills she loves and amongst the animals that grace them.

The writing is smooth, crisp, and vivid. The characters are a mix of kind, endearing, self-indulgent, and exasperating. And the plot is an entertaining mix of heart, hope, angst, mystery, and drama.

The Christmas Lights is, ultimately, a story about relationships, adventure, heartbreak, secrets, expectations, love, obsession, and discovering one’s true self that highlights just how susceptible and vulnerable social media can make us. It’s a beautiful, picture postcard of the frozen terrain, rugged mountains, and breathtaking Northern Lights of the fjords of Norway, and is a charming holiday read complete with a sliver of mystique.

Synopsis:

New York Admirals captain Scott Hunter takes his pregame rituals very seriously. In this case, it’s not just a lucky smoothie he’s craving—it’s the man who made it.

Pro hockey star Scott Hunter knows a good thing when he sees it. So, when a smoothie made by juice bar barista Kip Grady precedes Scott breaking his on-ice slump, he’s desperate to recreate the magic…and to get to know the sexy, funny guy behind the counter.

Kip knew there was more to Scott’s frequent visits than blended fruit, but he never let himself imagine being invited back to Scott’s penthouse. Or kissed with reckless abandon, never mind touched everywhere all at once. When it happens it’s red-hot, incredible and frequent, but also only on Scott’s terms and always behind his closed apartment doors.

Scott needs Kip in his life, but with playoff season approaching, the spotlight on him is suddenly brighter than ever. He can’t afford to do anything that might derail his career…like introducing the world to his boyfriend. Kip is ready to go all-in with Scott—but how much longer will he have to remain a secret?

Review:

Seductive, passionate, and timely!

Game Changer is an engrossing, sensuous, sports romance that features the lonely, closeted Scott, and the handsome, fun-loving Kip as they engage in a love affair strife with issues of insecurities, hidden sexuality, and the stigma and stereotypical mentality surrounding professional sports.

The prose is fervent and sincere. The characters are well-drawn, vulnerable, and endearing. And the plot is an alluring tale full of explosive attraction, heartfelt emotion, friendship, family, acceptance, support, palpable chemistry, hockey, and love.

Overall, Game Changer is a provocative, heartwarming story about love, pure and simple, with no labels, no limits, and no regrets. It’s a wonderful debut for Reid that is without a doubt one of my favourite MM novels of the year, and I can’t wait to read what she comes up with next.

Tired of the online dating scene and her nagging mother, Donella Spencer braves her eccentric extended family and heads for a month-long visit to Scotland to stay with them. As long as she keeps to herself and avoids her family as much as possible, it should be easy to relax, right?

What she doesn’t count on is running into Robbie Campbell, the guy who tried so hard to ditch her nearly twenty years ago that it took a search and rescue team to save her. Not only that, she doesn’t expect to fall for Robbie’s daughter’s big, brown eyes and agree to hold a themed costume party for Donella’s 31st birthday. One that involves her relatives dressing in nineteenth century safari garb and dusty, old animal outfits.

And none of that even begins to address her grandmother’s attempts to matchmake and marry off Donella within the month.

It’s going to be one long, trying summer in Scotland. However, sometimes the strangest situations can show what someone needs in life. Because if Donella falls in love with a man who can put up with her family, she may finally have her happy ending in sight.

For a few beats, they remained that way, her chest against his front, his hand just above the curve of her hip. His heart pounded, and as Donella’s sweet feminine scent filled his nose, he nearly lowered his head to nuzzle her cheek.

However, Donella raised her face so she could meet his gaze again. Between her flushed cheeks and soft body, he leaneda fraction closer to her lips. Catching himself, he froze.

Robbie opened his mouth to apologize, but Donella spoke first. “Just kiss me, Robbie. I’m tired of wondering.”

There were plenty of reasons why he should step away and refuse. After all, the best way to protect Ruby was to keep others away from her. If he never fell in love with a woman again, there was no risk of breaking his daughter’s heart if something went wrong.

And yet, he remembered Donella agreeing to have a fancy-dress party because Ruby asked. Or, how she’d taken his daughter inside and easily agreed to look at a rock collection. Bloody hell, she’d even given up her first full day in Scotland to spend it with him and his daughter.

Maybe, just maybe, Donella Spencer was different.

Before he could change his mind, Robbie closed the distance between their lips and kissed her.
