When school girl Janey Macklin disappeared from the seedy side of London in 1988, her case went cold, with no body and no witnesses. Now, thirty years later, private detective Kate Marshall has been approached by a true crime podcast producer with an intriguing question they need her help answering: What if Janey was killed by Peter Conway, the notorious Nine Elms Cannibal?

The contract would be the most lucrative of Kate’s career, but it comes with a price of its own, dredging up a sordid, complicated past that she would sooner forget . . . one that the paparazzi are determined to keep in the headlines.

As Kate and her partner, Tristan, scour King’s Cross for clues, no two leads seem to point in the same direction. The last person to see Janey alive has already been tried, convicted, and then acquitted of her murder, Peter Conway is in poor health and fading fast, and the line between their clients and their suspects is blurring with each new revelation about the case.

With little to work from, can Tristan and Kate wade through clandestine phone calls, decades-old secrets, and deteriorating DNA evidence to solve Janey’s murder, or will she remain one of London’s countless missing persons, forever lost to time?

Can be read as a stand-alone.

Review:

Mesmerizing, dark and unpredictable!

The Lost Victim is an eerie, twisty thrill ride that takes us back to the UK, where Private Investigator Kate Marshall and her partner Tristan Harper now find themselves on the thirty-year-old cold case of a missing teen that will not only see them heading to the streets of London but will have Kate confronting the demon from her past one last time.

The writing is insightful and edgy. The characters are multifaceted, diligent, and clever. And the plot is an ominous, compelling mix of twists, turns, red herrings, secrets, deduction, duplicity, mayhem, manipulation, malicious intentions, violence, and murder.

Overall, The Lost Victim is another intricate, engrossing, highly entertaining thriller by Bryndza that once again highlights his exceptional ability to write police procedurals that have well-drawn characters and disturbingly realistic storylines. It is the fifth novel in the Kate Marshall series and definitely one of my new all-time favourites.

The man lay on his front, his arms and legs bound and pulled up with a rope connecting the two. His head was arched back, so he faced the curtains, and there was masking tape over his mouth. Erika gingerly reached out and checked his pulse.

Yep. Dead all right.

When Detective Erika Foster finds politician Neville Lomas naked, hog-tied, and dead in his own bed, skittish higher-ups at the Met quickly rule the death from natural causes. Case closed . . . until two months later when a well-known casting director and a star footballer are found murdered and tied with the same knots. The Met can no longer ignore what’s staring them in the face: there’s a serial killer loose in London, and they’re out to settle a score.

As Erika and her team investigate, things take a strange turn as CCTV footage turns up five female suspects . . . and they’re all identical.

In the hunt to identify the women, Erika is outpaced at every turn by an elusive sex worker with dirt on enough powerful men to make the Met’s top brass nervous – and desperate.

As time ticks away until the killer strikes again, it’s up to Erika to untangle the web of evidence and answer the critical questions: What ties the victims together, who else is caught up in this scandal, and how far are the higher-ups willing to go to protect their own?

Gripping, tense and impossible to put down, Lethal Vengeance will have you on the edge of your seat, racing to the final dramatic page.

Review:

Relentless, intricate, and addictive!

Lethal Vengeance is an unnerving, action-packed thrill ride featuring the tenacious DCI Erika Foster and her loyal, hardworking team as they work together once again to hunt a cold, calculating female serial killer driven by a strong need for retribution and a penchant for rope and polaroid photos.

The writing is brisk and intense. The characters are meticulous, persistent, and impulsive. And the plot is a gripping, sinister whodunit full of twists, turns, lies, deception, revelations, obsession, depravity, abuse, violence, and murder.

Overall, Lethal Vengeance is an intricate, riveting, absorbing police procedural by an author, Robert Bryndza, who creates characters I can’t get enough of and juicy, disturbing stories that always suck me in and leave me shocked, surprised, highly entertained, and extremely satisfied. The Detective Erika Foster series is one of my all-time favourite series, and it has been and continues to be a must-read series for me since I stumbled across book one, The Girl in the Ice, way back in 2016.

“Do you believe Will took his own life?”

The question echoed off the white tiles in the hospital’s cold, cavernous morgue, and I studied my husband in peaceful repose. I leaned down and put my forehead against his. Silent tears ran down my cheeks. They felt hot, and he felt so cold. It was five days since his death, and my grief felt heavy, like a vast, dark mass pushing down on me.

When Maggie’s husband, Will, is shot dead in their London home, she thinks he is the victim of a burglary until the police tell her the shocking news that Will was the one who pulled the trigger.

Maggie is consumed with grief and questions. Will wasn’t suicidal and had so much to live for.

After the funeral, Maggie travels to their holiday home on a small Croatian island to escape London. She finds a disturbing letter written by Will, containing clues to a dark secret.

As Maggie puts the pieces together, she discovers Will’s death is connected to someone from his past… Someone who will go to extreme lengths to keep Maggie silent.

Three can keep a secret… If two of them are dead.

The international multi-million bestselling author of The Girl in the Ice is back with his first stand-alone thriller, a heart-racing, hold-your-breath read that will keep you hooked until the very last page.

Review:

Captivating, clever, and well-crafted!

Fear the Silence is an elaborately plotted, suspenseful tale that takes you into the life of Maggie Kendall, a trauma surgeon who, after her husband is found dead by a gunshot wound believed to be self-inflicted, heads to their holiday home on the isolated Croatian Island of Tišina, only to discover that her husband had secrets, dangerous secrets that someone is willing to do whatever it takes and kill whoever they have to in order to keep them hidden and silenced forever.

The writing is sharp and tight. The characters are persistent, vulnerable, and resourceful. And the plot, including all the subplots, seamlessly intertwine and unravel into a gripping tale full of secrets, surprises, revelations, deception, corruption, manipulation, power, mayhem, mischief, violence, and murder.

Overall, Fear the Silence is an exceptionally menacing, intricately woven, highly entertaining mystery by Bryndza that may be the first stand-alone thriller novel he’s ever written, but which still has all the twists, turns, suspense, in-depth character development, and great pace we’ve come to know and love from all his previous successful series.

Review:

Deft, intricate, and suspenseful!

In this latest novel by Bryndza, Devil’s Way, we head back to the UK where former police detective turned PI Kate Marshall and her trusty partner Tristan Harper now find themselves, at the request of a tormented grandmother, investigating the tragic eleven-year-old cold case of a missing toddler who seemingly vanished without a trace one night while out camping with his family in the wilds of Dartmoor.

The writing is meticulous and tight. The characters are intuitive, relentless, and committed. And the plot unravels briskly into a sinister tale full of twists, turns, heartbreak, deception, desperation, suspicious personalities, familial drama, mental illness, misdirection, and tragedy.

Overall, Devil’s Way is an atmospheric, gripping, highly entertaining thriller that once again highlights Bryndza’s exceptional ability to write menacing, sophisticated mysteries that have well-drawn characters and edgy storylines. It is the fourth novel in the Kate Marshall series and definitely one of my favourites.

Detective Erika Foster is back in FATAL WITNESS – with a chilling new serial killer case in Robert Bryndza’s multi-million bestselling crime thriller series!

How do you find a killer who has destroyed all the evidence?

Detective Erika Foster is on a late-night walk near her new house in Blackheath when she stumbles upon the brutal murder of Vicky Clarke, a true-crime podcaster.

Erika is assigned to the case and discovers that Vicky had been working on a new podcast episode about a sexual predator who preys on young female students around South London, staking out his victims in their halls of residence before breaking in at the dead of night. When Erika discovers that Vicky’s notes and sound recordings were stolen from her flat at the time of her murder, it leads her to believe that Vicky was close to unmasking the attacker, and she was killed to guarantee her silence.

The case takes on a disturbing twist when the body of a young Bulgarian student doctor is discovered in the same building, and this makes Erika question everything she thought she knew about Vicky. With very little evidence, the clock is ticking to find the killer before he strikes again.

Review:

Disturbing, dark, and exceptionally entertaining!

Fatal Witness is an unpredictable, sinuous thrill ride that takes us back to London, where Detective Erika Foster and her team now find themselves investigating the death of Vicky Clarke, a true-crime podcaster whose own investigation into a slew of sexual attacks on female students may have just made her the latest victim of a callous predator who is willing to do whatever it takes to keep his identity hidden forever.

The writing is bold and crisp. The characters are resilient, impulsive, and troubled. And the plot, including all the subplots, unravel and intertwine seamlessly into a sinister tale full of twists, turns, secrets, surprises, manipulation, coercion, deception, violence, and murder.

Overall, Fatal Witness is another riveting, spine-chilling, engrossing thriller by one of my favourite authors that kept me guessing from the very first page and left me unnerved, impressed, highly satisfied and eager to read whatever his devious mind manages to come up with next.

Review:

Astute, perilous, and chilling!

Deadly Secrets is an engrossing, edgy thriller that takes you on a hunt for a dangerous, sadistic, serial killer with a penchant for gas masks, sharp knives, dark corners, and no discernible victim type.

The writing is spine-tingling, vivid, and skillfully crafted. The characters are committed, persistent, and vulnerable. And the plot starts off with a bang and then quickly unravels into an ominous tale full of twists, turns, red herrings, secrets, lies, obsession, violence, murder, and mayhem.

Deadly Secrets is the sixth book in the Detective Erika Foster series, and once again Bryndza has written a highly suspenseful, intricately woven mystery with superb character development that gives the story a touch of human frailty and authenticity that takes it from just being a great novel to being absolute perfection!
