Sometimes love is unpredictable…

Twenty-nine-year-old Charlotte Rosen has a secret: she’s a widow. Ever since the fateful day that leveled her world, Charlotte has worked hard to move forward. Great job at a hot social media analytics company? Check. Roommate with no knowledge of her past? Check. Adorable dog? Check. All the while, she’s faithfully data-crunched her way through life, calculating the probability of risk—so she can avoid it.

Yet Charlotte’s algorithms could never have predicted that her late husband’s ashes would land squarely on her doorstep five years later. Stunned but determined, Charlotte sets out to find meaning in this sudden twist of fate, even if that includes facing her perfectly coiffed, and perfectly difficult, ex-mother-in-law—and her husband’s best friend, who seems to become a fixture at her side whether she likes it or not.

But soon a shocking secret surfaces, forcing Charlotte to answer questions she never knew to ask and to consider the possibility of forgiveness. And when a chance at new love arises, she’ll have to decide once and for all whether to follow the numbers or trust her heart.

Review:

Sweet, witty, and charming!

Husband Material is a sassy, heartfelt rom-com featuring the logical, grieving Charlotte who after unexpectedly receiving her late husband’s ashes back five-years after his passing realizes that the hurt is still raw and in order to heal and move on bridges should be mended, secrets must be revealed, and people need be forgiven.

The writing style is warm and light. The characters are quirky, reticent, and amusing. And the plot is a delightful blend of life, love, introspection, friendship, attraction, tender moments, awkward situations, forgiveness, misunderstandings, and closure.

Overall, Husband Material is an easy, humourous, uplifting tale by Belden that highlights the importance of letting go of the past, taking chances, embracing what’s next, and loving again.

Three awesome series meet in one explosive book!

It turned out hell was a small town in the Scottish Highlands. Oh, sure, the locals called it Invertary, but Agnes Sinclair knew better—the town even had an old woman everyone called Satan. If that wasn’t a sign she was in hell, she didn’t know what was. All Agnes had ever wanted was to get out of Scotland, and now she was stuck there with no escape. And all because of one teeny, tiny incident (he totally deserved it!) that got her blacklisted in the hotel industry. Now, her only career option is managing a hotel owned by a guy who looks like Disco Santa, in a town where everyone marched to their own damn beat. And, as if being trapped in hell wasn’t bad enough, a spate of thefts at the hotel makes the owner call in a member of Benson Security to help her get to the bottom of them. Agnes doesn’t need help. She especially doesn’t need it from a sexy single father whose every breath tempts her to reevaluate what she wants out of life. A man who makes her wonder if Invertary is where she truly belongs.

***This is a full length, standalone romance with an HEA***
**It includes characters from the Invertary (Scottish Highlands) series and the Benson Security Series**
*You don’t need to have read any other books in any series to enjoy this one!*

Family always come first. Until now.

No more waiting, the new novel from the No. 1 bestselling phenomenon Martina Cole is here, and it’s pure Martina gold. No Mercy is a heart-stopping rollercoaster ride of a read that proves there really is only one Martina Cole.

Diana Davis has been head of the family business since the death of her husband, an infamous bank robber. She’s a woman in a man’s world, but no one messes with her.

Her only son, Angus, is a natural born villain, but he needs to earn Diana’s trust before she’ll allow him into the business.

Once he’s proved he has the brains to run their clubs in Marbella, he is given what he’s always wanted. It’s the beginning of a reign of terror that knows no bounds.

But Angus has a blind spot: his wife, Lorna, and their three kids, Angus Junior, Sean and Eilish. And as the next generation enters the business, Angus has a painful truth to learn. Even when it comes to family, he must show no mercy…

Review:

Dark, pacey, and exceptionally gritty!

This latest novel by Cole, No Mercy, is a graphic, engrossing, gang thriller that takes you on a journey into the calculated and disturbing criminal underworld and immerses you in all the manipulation, immorality, depravity, and violence found there.

The prose is crisp and precise. The characters are hot-tempered, callous, and impulsive. And the plot is a fast-paced, riveting tale full of twists, turns, action, intrigue, power, corruption, duplicity, terror, and murder.

Overall, No Mercy is a sinister, edgy, chillingly plausible tale that highlights just how easily the line between right and wrong can become extremely blurry for those with nefarious tendencies, and reminds us that money and greed are often the root of all evil.

I’d never forgotten him—a man I’d yet to meet.

Griffin Quinn was my childhood pen pal, the British boy who couldn’t have been more different from me. Over the years, through hundreds of letters, we became best friends, sharing our deepest, darkest secrets and forming a connection I never thought could break.

Until one day it did.

Then, out of the blue, a new letter arrived. A scathing one—one with eight years of pent-up anger. I had no choice but to finally come clean as to why I stopped writing.

Griffin forgave me, and somehow we were able to rekindle our childhood connection. Only now we were adults, and that connection had grown to a spark. Our letters quickly went from fun to flirty to downright dirty, revealing our wildest fantasies. So it only made sense that we would take our relationship to the next level and see each other in person.

Only Griff didn’t want to meet. He asked that I trust him and said it was for the best. But I wanted more—more Griff, in the flesh—so I took a big chance and went looking for him. People have done crazier things for love.

But what I found could change everything.

Review:

Intimate, hopeful, and sweet!

Dirty Letters is a lighthearted, passionate tale that takes you on a journey into the lives of the creative, reclusive Luca who after surviving a fire that claimed her best friend is still struggling with trepidation and fear towards the outside, congested world, and the successful, famous, rocker Griffin whose life is full yet empty and who has never forgotten the attraction and special bond he felt for his childhood pen pal.

The prose is emotive and honest. The characters are unique, vulnerable, and lonely. And the plot using an intriguing mixture of narration, letters, texts, and inner musings is a delightfully romantic, charming tale about life, love, loss, family, friendship, self-discovery, happiness, taking chances, enduring love, and the struggles associated with an anxiety disorder and agoraphobia.

Overall, Dirty Letters is an uplifting, heartfelt, sensual tale by Keeland and Ward that has characters you can’t help but root for and a happy-ever-after ending that leaves you smiling, satisfied, and hoping for more. It’s an absolute treat and a beautiful example of what happens when two of the most successful authors of a genre collaborate.

From Jennifer Weiner, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Who Do You Love and In Her Shoes, comes a smart, thoughtful, and timely exploration of two sisters’ lives from the 1950s to the present as they struggle to find their places—and be true to themselves—in a rapidly evolving world. Mrs. Everything is an ambitious, richly textured journey through history—and herstory—as these two sisters navigate a changing America over the course of their lives.

Review:

Raw, timely, and emotional!

Mrs. Everything is a sophisticated, multilayered story that follows two sisters from Detroit, Jo, the smart, sporty one, and Bethie, the beautiful, delicate one, as they struggle to understand, accept, support, unite, and show compassion for each other in a life littered with tragedy, abuse, and weighty expectations.

The writing is honest and impassioned. The characters are genuine, troubled, and sympathetic. And the plot takes us from the 1950s to 2016 and tells the story of two lives filled with loss, love, loneliness, grief, inequity, friction, discontent, insecurity, drugs, sexual awakening and familial drama all played out in a time of considerable social and political upheaval.

Overall, Mrs. Everything is an insightful, moving, at times heartbreaking tale that highlights the power of family and reminds us that everyone who enters our life shapes and defines it, and even though the rights and equalities for women have come so far, in some respects we still have a long way to go.

But I know better than to confess.

Now that we’re both in college together, I’m seeing a new side of him. College Dylan drinks and has a lot of sex. None of it with me. Until the night I foolishly ask him to tutor me in more than algebra…and he actually says yes.

Phoebe stands on Pulteney Bridge, tights gashed from toe to thigh. The shock of mangled metal and blood-stained walls flashes through her mind as she tries to cover her face so she won’t be recognised. It wouldn’t do to be spotted looking like this. She’s missing a shoe. She feels sick.

Phoebe thought murder and murder happened. Thoughts are just thoughts, they said. Now she knows they were wrong.

At home, Phoebe arranges the scissors and knives so they point toward her mother’s room. She is exhausted, making sure there’s no trace of herself – not a single hair, not even her scent – left anywhere in the house. She must not let her thoughts unravel, because if they do, there’s no telling who might be caught in the crossfire, and Phoebe will have to live with the consequences.

Review:

Gloomy, tragic, and consuming!

Crushed is an ominous, gritty, character-driven tale that takes you into the lives of three teenage friends, Phoebe, Orla, and Grace, as they each struggle to find some semblance of control, power, and love in a life littered with dysfunction, self-destruction, insecurities, and lack of affection.

The prose is tight and intense. The characters are vulnerable, damaged, and impulsive. And the plot is a slow-burning, immersive tale full of life, loss, deception, desperation, friendship, familial drama, manipulation, jealousy, obsession, emerging sexuality, abuse, violence, and murder.

Overall, Crushed is a dark, eerie, astute, coming-of-age tale by Hamer that does a remarkable job of delving into the complex dynamics between friends and family and highlights just how parasitic and toxic some of those relationships can truly be.
