June Wu always has it all together—only now, she’s in over her head. Her family’s inn desperately needs guests, her mother’s medical debts are piling up, and the surly, if sexy, stranger next door is driving away the customers she has left! When he asks for June’s help, though, she can’t say no. After all, his new bar could be just what the upcoming Pumpkin Festival needs to bring in more tourists. But with the fierce attraction between them, will working together be playing with fire?

Ex-soldier Clay Hawthorne prefers being on his own. He’s moved to Blue Cedar Falls for one reason—to carry out his best friend’s dream of opening a bar in the hometown he’ll now never return to. But the town’s business association is trying to stop Clay’s progress. June soon becomes his biggest supporter, and while their partnership is supposed to be only temporary, for the first time Clay wants something permanent—with June. Can two total opposites really learn to meet each other in the middle?

Includes the bonus novella Kiss Me in Sweetwater Springs by Annie Rains!

Review:

Heartfelt, playful, and sweet!

The Inn on Sweetbriar Lane is a heartwarming, compassionate tale that transports you to Blue Cedar Falls and into the lives of June Wu, a hardworking, young woman who, after her mother’s recent illness, is doing everything she can to balance the books, keep the family hotel running, and pay as much of the outstanding hospital bills as she can, and Clay Hawthorne, a new resident and retired soldier who’s determined to do whatever it takes to fulfil his late best friend’s wishes and open the bar he always dreamed of opening.

The writing is fresh and smooth. The characters are considerate, kind, and endearing. And the plot is a push-pull tale full of familial responsibility, witty banter, community drama, tender moments, expectations, goals, friendship, diversity, loss, grief, compromise, PTSD, financial strain, chemistry, and romance.

Overall, The Inn on Sweetbriar Lane is an uplifting, passionate, satisfying novel by Chin that’s more than just a typical enemies-to-more rom-com with its Asian American and LBGTQ+ representation, nice blend of emotion and lightheartedness, and a wonderful cast of characters you can’t help but love.

The New York Times bestselling author of The Paris Secret weaves a lush and engrossing novel of World War II inspired by a true story and perfect for fans of Kate Quinn and Pam Jenoff.

Paris, 1939: The Nazis think Éliane can’t understand German. They’re wrong. They think she’s merely cataloging art in a Louvre museum and unaware they’re stealing national treasures for their private collections. They have no idea she’s carefully decoding their notes and smuggling information to the Resistance. But Éliane is playing a dangerous game. Does she dare trust the man she once loved with her secrets, or will he only betray her once again? She has no way to know for certain . . . until a trip to a stunning home on the French Riviera brings a whole new level of peril.

Present Day: Wanting to forget the tragedy that has left her life in shambles, Remy Lang heads to a home she’s mysteriously inherited on the Riviera. While working on her vintage fashion business, she discovers a catalog of the artworks stolen during World War II and is shocked to see a painting that hung on her childhood bedroom wall. Who is her family, really? And does the Riviera house hold more secrets than Remy is ready to face?

Natasha Lester brilliantly explores the impossible choices ordinary people faced every day during extraordinary circumstances, weaving fact with fiction and celebrating women who push the boundaries of their time.

Review:

Sincere, absorbing and expressive!

The Riviera House is a rich, engaging tale set in France during WWII, as well as present-day, that takes you into the lives of two main characters; Éliane Dufort, a young woman who, through determination and resilience, uses her knowledge of art to help survive the war; and Remy Lang, a vintage fashion entrepreneur who inadvertently stumbles across her true parentage when she travels to her inherited home in the Riviera for solace and quiet in order to grieve the unexpected loss of her husband and daughter.

The prose is eloquent and well-turned. The characters are strong, lonely, and brave. And the plot, including all the subplots, intertwine and unravel seamlessly into a heartfelt saga of life, loss, secrets, surprises, heartbreak, betrayal, survival, danger, friendship, and love.

Overall, The Riviera House is an evocative, sentimental, moving tale with compelling characters that I devoured from start to finish. I’m a huge fan of Natasha Lester’s writing, and this novel didn’t disappoint. If you enjoy well researched WWII time-slip stories with a fresh perspective and a dab of romance, then I highly recommend it.

After having his heart broken on national television, Tim Fraser knows only one way to stop the gossip about his love life-a new girlfriend. The problem is, he’s done with romance forever. Event planner Kate Sweet is famous for creating the perfect happily-ever-after moment for her clients’ dream weddings. So how is it that her best friend has roped her into planning a bestselling horror writer’s book launch extravaganza? But the second Kate meets—or rather, accidentally maims—the drop-dead-hot Drake Matthews, her well-ordered life quickly transforms into an absolute nightmare.

Drake Matthews is tired of the spotlight and tired of his reputation as the Knight of Nightmares. He’s really a nice guy! But he’s not prepared for Kate, a fearless agent of chaos in steel-tipped stilettos, or for that sweet sting of attraction he feels for her. She’s inspiring him to take his writing in a whole new direction—one that no one expects. Because now Kate and Drake are changing up the rules, and this plot twist might just surprise everyone . . . including themselves.

Review:

Witty, engaging, and sweetly romantic!

How Sweet It Is is an enchanting, whimsical tale featuring the kindhearted, affable, event planner, Kate and the private, thoughtful, horror writer, Drake as they discover that even though they got off to a rocky start, in the end, they might just be perfect for each other.

Overall, How Sweet It Is is a delightfully amusing tale by Newton that had everything I look for in a lighthearted rom-com and more. I loved the characters, I loved the storyline, and I loved the happy-ever-after ending. It is undoubtedly one of my favourite contemporary romance reads of the year, with my only complaint being that I now have to wait a whole year, until the summer of 2022, to read the next novel in the series.

Fans of Lori Foster and Maisey Yates won’t be able to put down this heartwarming, multi-generational story about three sisters’ search to reunite their family and the love they find along the way.

The Buchanan sisters share everything—including their inherited Juniper Inn. But when their mother won’t let go of a decades-long feud with their Aunt Sassy to attend the inn’s grands re-opening, the sisters decide a family reunion is long overdue.

Youngest sister Rose is determined to put together an extravagant celebration. Only she needs to convince a certain surly hardware store owner to help finish the inn’s renovations.

In this second novel in the Juniper Springs series, The Summer Sisters, we head back to the idyllic Colorado mountains and into the lives of the Buchanan sisters as they navigate the ups and downs of relocating, renovating their beloved Juniper Inn, smoothing old familial grudges, fresh opportunities, and blossoming new love interests.

The Summer Cottage is a cosy, heartwarming tale that takes you into the life of the cautious, hardworking Trisha Langly as she juggles a relocation, a new job, an inquisitive son, an ex with a criminal past, and a handsome man who is entirely too hard to resist.

The writing is tender and sweet. The characters are kind, tentative, and supportive. And the plot is an irresistible mix of life, loss, love, family, friendship, special moments, trust, respect, community, and self-discovery.

As most of you know, I am a huge fan of Annie Rains and was sad to see the Sweetwater Springs series come to an end, but I am delighted to say this new Somerset Lake series has kicked off with a bang. The Summer Cottage has everything in it I hoped for, small-town charm, an emotive, romantic storyline, and characters new and old that you can’t help but be invested in and root for.
