Immersive, evocative, and fascinating!

Katharine, the Wright Sister is an atmospheric, absorbing tale that sweeps you away to the turn of the twentieth century and into the lives of the Wright brothers and their often unknown, overlooked or forgotten sister, Katharine, who not only provided support and assistance to her siblings during the continual ups and downs of attempting to invent, build, and fly the first powered airplane but was a consistent motivator that kept them focused on the tasks at hand and the dream firmly alive.

The prose is expressive and eloquent. The characters are well drawn, multilayered, and authentic. And the plot is an intriguing, absorbing mix of life, loss, loyalty, friendship, family, dreams, drive, ambition, successes, failures, imagination, and innovation.

Overall, Katharine, the Wright Sister is a compelling, rich, illuminating tale by one of my all-time favourite authors, Tracey Enerson Wood, that once again enthralled, entertained, and informed me!

Tracey Enerson Wood has always had a writing bug. Charged, intense, and intriguing!

The Paris Understudy is an enticing, absorbing tale set in France during WWII that takes you into the lives of two opera singers, the esteemed Madeleine Moreau and the up-and-coming Yvonne Chevallier, as they both veer down different paths to survive the Nazi occupation of Paris.

The prose is fluid and rich. The characters are strong, resourceful, and trustworthy. And the plot is a captivating mix of life, love, loss, secrets, passion, heartbreak, betrayal, tragedy, survival, danger, friendship, war, and opera.

Overall, The Paris Understudy is a compelling, heart-tugging, atmospheric tale by Thiele that transports you to another time and place and immerses you so thoroughly in the feelings, lives, and personalities of the characters you can’t help but be fully invested.

Brisk, riveting, and suspenseful!

The Swimmer is an intense, ominous thrill ride that introduces us to Chloe, a middle-aged woman who, after becoming consumed with her beautiful, affluent new neighbours, quickly discovers that everything is not as perfect as it seems, everyone has skeletons in their closet, and more than one person is desperate enough to murder.

The writing is edgy and brisk. The characters are consumed, devious, and persistent. And the plot is an intricate, action-packed tale full of twists, turns, secrets, surprises, questionable personalities, duplicitous motivations, manipulative actions, parasitic relationships, violence, and ruthless murder.

Overall, The Swimmer is another tortuous, addictive, unnerving tale by White that is deliciously relentless, surprising, deceptive, and bursting with misdirection.

Review:

Sinister, mysterious, and tight!

The Dark Wives is an intense, intricate thrill ride featuring the dependable DI Vera Stanhope and her loyal, hardworking team as they work together as quickly as possible to solve the puzzling murder of a young group home worker and find a somehow connected missing teen.

The writing is sharp and meticulous. The characters are intelligent, multilayered, and persistent. And the plot is an unpredictable, ominous tale filled with twists, turns, deception, red herrings, suspicious personalities, corruption, secrets, deduction, greed, and murder.

Overall, The Dark Wives is another thrilling, addictive, well-crafted addition to a series that, with its credible characters, great pace, and constant sense of urgency, is still one of my all-time favourites.

Intricate, thrilling, and intense!

Mind Games is a complex, creepy thriller that takes us into the lives of the Fox family, especially Thea, as they continue to struggle with the actions, scars, repercussions, and tragedy caused by a serial killer with continual evil thoughts and intentions that are disturbingly readable by some members of the family.

The writing is brisk and tight. The characters are troubled, special, and vulnerable. And the plot unfolds and unravels quickly into a compelling tale of twists, turns, secrets, obsession, jealousy, vengeance, family, friendship, childhood trauma, unique talents, romance, and a dab of the supernatural.

Overall, Mind Games is another engrossing, heartwarming, suspenseful tale by one of my favourite authors that once again showcases her exceptional ability to delve into not only the psychological and behavioural actions of the most depraved of society but also those of the victims who have suffered or been permanently damaged by them.

Review:

Absorbing, rich, and expressive!

The Paris Network is a sentimental, engaging tale predominately set in France during 1940, as well as 1993, that takes you into the lives of two main characters. Laurence, a young woman who, through determination and resilience, uses her bookshop to help lift the community spirit and help the resistance as much as she possibly can; and Jeanne, a middle-aged woman who, after learning of her real mother’s identity, decides with the help of her father to embark on a journey to discover the true identity of the woman who stole her father’s heart and to claim the inheritance she only just became aware of.

The prose is eloquent and well-turned. The characters are vulnerable, strong, and courageous. And the plot, including all the subplots, intertwine and unravel seamlessly into a heartfelt, touching tale of life, loss, secrets, surprises, separation, heartbreak, betrayal, desperation, tragedy, survival, danger, friendship, the horrors of war, and enduring love.

Overall, The Paris Network is a moving, sincere, evocative tale by Curham inspired by real-life events that I devoured from start to finish and which I highly recommend for anyone who loves a well written WWII time-slip novel.

Spicy, steamy, and emotional!

Fall with Me is a passionate, lighthearted sports romance featuring the playful, outgoing Jaxon, who is more than happy being single and focused on his career, and the charismatic, independent Lennon who, after narrowly escaping being married to a philanderer, is now prepared to wait as long as it takes to find Mr. Right.

The writing is sultry and sincere. The characters are fun-loving, confident, and appealing. And the plot is a tantalizing mix of palpable attraction, unquenchable lust, sizzling chemistry, friendship, temptation, desire, tender moments, sexy times, and hockey.

Overall, Fall with Me is a sweet, fervent, seductive treat by Mack that is another wonderful addition to what is ultimately turning out to be an absolutely fantastic, must-read Playing for Keeps series.

Life, Loss, and Puffins is a heartfelt, tender tale that takes you into the lives of Ru, a brilliant thirteen-year-old girl attending her first year of college whose life gets turned upside down when her mother suddenly passes, and Gabriel, a teenager who impulsively gives up his studies to take his new friend on a road trip to the north to fulfil some of her wish list of things she really wants to see and do.

The writing style is sentimental and sensitive. The characters are quirky, multilayered, and endearing. And the plot is an impactful coming-of-age tale of life, loss, family, friendship, grief, heartache, support, love, taking chances, introspection, and self-identity.

Overall, Life, Loss, and Puffins is an alluring, empowering, entertaining tale by Hyde full of heart, hope, and healing that does a wonderful job of delving into all the complex dynamics of relationships while also highlighting the incredible power of friendship.

Lenny Marks Gets Away With Murder is a heartfelt, absorbing tale that takes you into the life of Lenny Marks, a socially awkward, Hobbit-loving teacher who, after receiving a letter from a parole board, struggles to come to grips with a past she thought she knew with the darker one that seems to be slowly seeping into her consciousness from memories she has suppressed for a very long time.

The writing is tender and light. The characters are quirky, endearing, and well-developed. And the plot is a compelling, hopeful tale of life, loss, secrets, resilience, abuse, friendship, revelations, childhood trauma, violence, self-identification, and moving on.

Overall, Lenny Marks Gets Away With Murder is a twisty, charming, moving tale by Mayne that is a wonderful reminder that even after suffering the most unimaginable cruelty and tragedy, humanity still has the innate ability to hope, heal, and live healthy lives.

All Our Tomorrows is a heartfelt, alluring tale that features the sweet, wary Piper and the handsome, capable Chase as they navigate a relationship that includes a shared secret and a common goal, a family mired in drama and troubles, smouldering tension, and undeniable attraction.

The writing is smooth and fluid. The characters are enigmatic, intelligent, and loyal. And the plot is an irresistible mix of family, friendship, revelations, deception, secrets, introspection, tender moments, passion, emotion, and swoon-worthy romance.

Overall, All Our Tomorrows is another tender, playful, charming read by Bybee that has, without a doubt, become one of my new all-time favourites and is an absolutely brilliant start for this new Heirs series.
