A remote coastal cottage; a group of old friends; the Christmas holidays. It’s just the break Olivia needs to help her relax and forget her worries. What could be more perfect? But that was before she found a handsome unconscious stranger on the beach. Add in a case of mistaken identity, a lot of kissing practice, and an inquisitive best friend, and things begin to get more than a little complicated.

The large bump on Adam’s head hurts, but he refuses to go to the hospital—or back home—and eventually accepts Olivia’s offer of hospitality. When her friends arrive the following morning, a chance remark catapults them both into a bizarre and amusing situation that promises to make it a Christmas to remember.

Review:

Amusing, sweet, and engaging!

Practising for Christmas is a warm, witty, entertaining tale featuring the kind, caring Olivia and the confident, successful Adam as they discover that sometimes love at first sight truly does exist, and no practice is necessary.

The prose is clear and light. The characters are spontaneous, flirty, and amiable. And the plot is a delightful blend of instant attraction, palpable chemistry, drama, playful banter, family, friendship, heartbreak, tricky situations, awkward moments, and holiday festivities.

Overall I would have to say that Practising for Christmas is a charming, captivating, humorous tale by Richey that was a pleasure to read and perfect for the holidays.

Old wounds, new directions, and a forever worth chasing.

Malcolm Montgomery was a history teacher and track coach until an accident left him with two broken legs. He’ll recover, but life has knocked his feet out twice now. He’s not sure if he’s ready to try again, especially when it comes to love—and slick guys like Brian Kenway. Still, he needs help mentoring the school’s LGBTQ society, so he asks Brian to take some responsibility.

Brian has been hiding behind his reputation as a liar and a cheat for so long that he actually believes he’s that guy—until his nephew, Josh, turns up on his couch, tossed out for being gay. Brian has never considered being a father, but he knows all about being rejected by loved ones. Now Brian wants to be more: a partner for Mal and a role model for Josh.

But when Mal’s recovery is set back and the sad truth of Brian’s past is revealed, the forever they’ve been chasing seems even further from their grasps. It’ll take a rescue effort to revive their sense of worth and make Brian, Mal, and Josh into a family of their own.

Review:

Intimate, sensuous, and timely!

Chasing Forever is a passionate, heartwarming tale that takes us into the lives of Malcolm and Brian as they each must learn to cope with the baggage from their past, overcome their insecurities, fight for what they truly want, and work together to create a haven for the kids in their community.

The writing is sincere and heartfelt. The characters are flawed, caring, and genuine. And the plot is an alluring, push-pull storyline filled with friendship, family, tension, responsibility, support, humor, shameless flirting, angst, heartbreak, and unconditional love.

Overall, Chasing Forever is a well written, provocative, emotional story by Jensen that does an excellent job of highlighting the challenges, prejudices, and ignorance faced by those in the LGBTQIA community and reminds us just how much guidance and support all teens require when discovering and embracing their sexual identity.

Review:

Captivating, tender, and romantic!

Moonlight on the Thames is a charming, festive tale about the importance of lending a hand, confronting the past, taking risks, learning to trust, embracing the future, and being true to one’s self.

The prose is poetic and impassioned. The characters are hesitant, secretive, and wounded. And the plot sweeps you away into an engaging, touching tale about life, loss, friendship, family, heartbreak, trauma, tragedy, forgiveness, unconditional love, and the magic of music.

Overall, Moonlight on the Thames is another enchanting, uplifting, emotive story by Westwood that is beautifully written, positively beguiling and so much more than just another feel-good holiday read.

The enigmatic Natalie Hope takes over the reins at the Sugar and Spice bakery and café in an attempt to spread some festive cheer and restore Christmas spirit, but will she succeed?

Review:

Whimsical, cozy, and delightfully entertaining!

The Christmas Spirit is a heartwarming, wintery tale that takes us into the life of Natalie Hope as she travels to the small town of Winstanton to create a little happiness, merriment, and joy for four citizens in need of a little Christmas cheer!

The prose is light and atmospheric. The characters are unique, lonely, and endearing. And the story is a compelling tale full of tender moments, self-discovery, friendship, family, community, relationship woes, festive preparations, and of course a touch of romance!

Overall, The Christmas Spirit is a sweet, uplifting, holiday read that will certainly have you believing in the magic of Christmas and dreaming of twinkling lights, crackling fires, hot chocolate, and scrumptious treats!

It’ll take a miracle to make Juliet’s Christmas merry, but Mistletoe Row is the place to be when you need some Christmas magic.

The last person Juliet Bell expects to see when she returns home for Christmas is Harrison Bow. Especially with the most beautiful woman in the world by his side. Twenty years ago, Juliet and Harrison had the shortest romance in history, consisting of one date – and one blazing row. But Juliet will never admit when she’s wrong, and Harrison doesn’t forgive easily, so they haven’t seen, or spoken to one another since.

Harrison Bow vowed he’d never visit his grandfather at The Grange, again, or drive along Mistletoe Row, the scene of one of the unhappiest times of his life. He hasn’t been back for twenty years and he’s only here now because his brother pleaded with him to come. At least with his executive assistant joining him, he’ll be able to do some work.

But Juliet’s sister, Zoe and Harrison’s brother, Luke have some surprises in store for their elder siblings, and so it seems does Fate. After Harrison risks his life to save Juliet, the least she can do is be nice. The problem is, Harrison is hotter than the log fire in The Mistletoe pub, and when she’s surrounded by twinkling lights and softly falling snow, it doesn’t take long for her to realise she’s in love with the man she thought she hated. Even if he doesn’t appear to be in love with her.

Review:

Quaint, festive, and oh so romantic!

Bells and Bows on Mistletoe Row is an enchanting tale that sweeps you away to the town of Mistletythe and into the life of the optimistic, kindhearted Juliet as she heads home for holidays, jobless, homeless and determined to avoid any of the occupants of The Grange, especially the handsome, successful Harrison Bow who broke her heart twenty years ago.

The prose is polished and light. The characterization is spot on with a cast of characters that are fun-loving, sentimental and endearing. And the plot is an irresistible blend of humour, heart, nostalgic moments, misunderstandings, family, friendship, tension, attraction, chemistry, spirited shenanigans, and Christmas cheer.

Overall, Bells and Bows on Mistletoe Row is another alluring, heartwarming, delightfully magical tale by Harvale that is without a doubt one of my favourite holiday reads this year!

Review:

Dramatic, suspenseful, and steamy!

Naked Truths is a fervid, twisty tale that takes you on a journey into the life of Lucy, a massage therapist who inadvertently finds her life turned upside down after she falls for her secretive, intense client, Giles.

The prose is seductive and taut. The characters are focused, mysterious, and multifaceted. And the plot told from alternating POVs is an ominous, compelling mix of twists, turns, deception, friendship, family, desire, tension, murder, and romance.

Naked Truths is a menacing, entertaining, erotic tale that lags slightly at times but is overall an alluring, solid start to the Naked series with one or two nice unexpected surprises, and some delightfully, intriguing characters.

If so, Daisy is set and driven to succeed. But to hold on to what she’s earned, she must live between black and white. She must spend her life in the gray.

That makes it difficult for a woman to know who she’s dealing with, in business and in bed.

Has Daisy gotten involved with the wrong person this time?

Can this gorgeous man be trusted, or is it him that needs to beware?

Daisy is a mixed race urban romance where the road to true love is anything but easy.

Review:

Risqué, sinister, and mysterious!

Daisy is a fervid, erotic tale that takes you on a journey into the life of Daisy, a young woman who quickly learns that if you choose to do business with criminals than danger can loom around any corner and that people aren’t always who they seem.

The prose is clear and seductive. The characters are impulsive, secretive, and vulnerable. And the plot told from different POVs is an ominous mix of twists, turns, violence, corruption, deception, sex, murder, and mixed-race romance.

Overall, even though I found Daisy to be a little slow to start and didn’t have as much character development as I would have liked it was still a fast, dark, dramatic read that some will thoroughly enjoy.

Everything they’ve ever wanted is riding on a thin, punishing line. And they’ll have to fight for more than just each other if they want to make it through intact.

After all, the only easy day was yesterday.

Review:

Sexy, sweet, and evocative!

Loving a Warrior is a passionate, military romance that delves into the rigorous physical, emotional, and psychological demands involved in becoming a Navy Seal, and touches on the patience, understanding, support, and trust required to maintain a relationship under those conditions.

The writing is informative and authentic. The characters are rugged, single-minded, and encouraging. And the plot is a slow-burning tale full of explosive chemistry, undeniable attraction, grit, determination, perseverance, sacrifice, competition, and love.

Overall, even though I didn’t find Loving a Warrior as raw and emotional as Hansen’s previous novel, Point of Contact, it is still an intense, enjoyable, enlightening read that showcases her exceptional knowledge into the expectations, pressures, and challenges of Navy life.

A story of love and political intrigue, set against the backdrop of the English hunting shires and the streets of Victorian London and post-revolutionary Paris.

When Harriet Howard becomes Louis Napoleon’s mistress and financial backer and appears at his side in Paris in 1848, it is as if she has emerged from nowhere. How did the English daughter of a Norfolk boot-maker meet the future Emperor? Who is the mysterious Nicholas Sly and what is his hold over Harriet?

Can Harriet meet her obligations and return to her former life and the man she left behind? What is her involvement with British Government secret services? Can Harriet’s friend, jockey Tom Olliver, help her son Martin solve his own mystery: the identity of his father?

The central character is Harriet Howard and the action takes place between 1836 and 1873. The plot centres on Harriet’s relationships with Louis Napoleon and famous Grand National winning jockey, Jem Mason. The backdrop to the action includes significant characters from the age, including Lord Palmerston, Queen Victoria and the Duke of Grafton, as well as Emperor Napoleon III. The worlds of horse racing, hunting and government provide the scope for rural settings to contrast with the city scenes of London and Paris and for racing skulduggery to vie with political chicanery.

The Merest Loss is historical fiction with a twist. It’s pacy and exciting with captivating characters and a distinctive narrative voice.

Review:

Fascinating, engaging, and insightful!

The Merest Loss is an intriguing interpretation about the life of Harriet Howard, a young, impulsive, British girl who aspired early in life to become a distinguished actress but who ultimately became most infamous as the benefactor and mistress to Louis Napoleon.

The prose is descriptive and smooth. The characters are vulnerable, independent, and well drawn. And the story sweeps you back and forth between London and Paris during the mid-1800s and into a world filled with love, loss, deception, manipulation, riches, power, politics, and 19th-century horse racing.

I have to admit that I knew very little about Harriet Howard when I started The Merest Loss but Neil did such a lovely job of blending historical facts with captivating, alluring fiction that you’ll not only be left entertained but questioning whether the Comtesse de Beauregard was really a strong-minded, forthright woman ahead of the times or merely a lonely, heartbroken, naive young girl who was used and exploited by a government looking to secure beneficial alliances.
