Unspoken Promises are worse than lies.

Morgan Kennedy and Lincoln Gates have been in love since high school. Their friends have envied their devotion to not only each other, but also the life they’ve made together. From the outside looking in, their relationship is perfect. One mirrored of fairytales. But behind the door, Morgan isn’t feeling as fulfilled as she once did. She wants more. She wants the glass slipper and the happily ever after.

What Lincoln and Morgan don’t anticipate is that a horrific event is about to make them second-guess their wants.

Review:

Sweet, heartbreaking, and highly emotional!

This is a story about relationships, guilt, blame, communication, support, forgiveness, loneliness, intimacy, and love.

The characters are impassioned, flawed and introspective. The writing is clear and fluid. And the plot is a rollercoaster ride of angst-ridden drama, self-loathing, tragedy, romance and soul-searching triggered by the violation of a loved one.

I have to admit, unlike the first novel, I did find this storyline to drag slightly at times and the characters to be excessively frustrating, but overall it was still an intriguing, captivating, and enjoyable read.

This is the second novel in The Unspoken Love Series and even though it can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend you read the first novel in the series, Unspoken Words, first. You can check out my review for Unspoken Words Here!

Book Rating: 8/10

Lisa Gardner’s next thriller following her runaway New York Times bestseller Find Her takes her wildly popular brand of suspense to new heights.

Is he a hero?

Eight years ago, Sharlah May Nash’s older brother beat their drunken father to death with a baseball bat in order to save both of their lives. Now thirteen years old, Sharlah has finally moved on. About to be adopted by retired FBI profiler Pierce Quincy and his partner, Rainie Conner, Sharlah loves one thing best about her new family: They are all experts on monsters.

Is he a killer?

Then the call comes in. A double murder at a local gas station, followed by reports of an armed suspect shooting his way through the wilds of Oregon. As Quincy and Rainie race to assist, they are forced to confront mounting evidence: The shooter may very well be Sharlah’s older brother, Telly Ray Nash, and it appears his killing spree has only just begun.

All she knows for sure: He’s back.

As the clock winds down on a massive hunt for Telly, Quincy and Rainie must answer two critical questions: Why after eight years has this young man started killing again? And what does this mean for Sharlah? Once upon a time, Sharlah’s big brother saved her life. Now, she has two questions of her own: Is her brother a hero or a killer? And how much will it cost her new family before they learn the final, shattering truth? Because as Sharlah knows all too well, the biggest danger is the one standing right behind you.

Review:

Suspenseful, gripping and intense!

In this new novel by Gardner, the beloved FBI profiler Quincy is back and this time his expertise is needed on a case that quickly unfolds to be much more sinister and premeditated than a simple spree killer.

The writing is well done. The characters are troubled, guarded, secretive and complex. And the plot is a compelling, mysterious web of childhood violence, trauma, lies, abuse, corruption, greed and murder.

Overall, this is a well-paced, riveting tale that gives an insightful look into the complexities of familial relationships, foster care and fugitive tracking, and also has some unexpected twists you won’t see coming.

But in a company already torn by internal politics, one wrong step could ruin both their careers. And not only are they working to reopen Ringside Gym, Zack’s retreat when he was a troubled teen, but they also can’t help themselves falling for each other. If only the rest of their lives could go as smoothly as things do when they’re alone together.

Review:

Sweet, passionate and emotional!

This is a contemporary romance story full of commitments, responsibilities, stress, pressure, sexual tension, steamy chemistry and love.

The writing is clear and precise. The characters are a mix of an arrogant, angry, handsome alpha and a charming, efficient, troubled cutie. And the plot, narrated from alternate points of view, starts off nicely with strong character development, gets a little bogged down half way through, but then finishes pleasingly with an engaging, satisfying ending.

I have to say that overall this is an easy, enjoyable read that will definitely have you believing that opposites attract.

This is the first novel in the new “Ringside Romance” series and I look forward to reading the next novel in the series when it is published.

And how can she cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim?

And why are there bars on one of the bedroom windows?

The perfect marriage? Or the perfect lie?

Review:

Disturbing, suspenseful and extremely satisfying!

This is an absorbing thriller that delves into the psychological and emotional manipulation that can occur in a relationship and reminds us that you never really know what goes on “behind closed doors”.

The writing is well done. The story is told in a past/present, back-and-forth style that gives nice depth and understanding to both the relationships and the predicaments the characters find themselves in, and the plot is full of enough twists and turns to keep you on the edge of you seat from the outset.

I have to say this dark, gritty novel is incredibly chilling and if you like psychological thrillers I think you will definitely enjoy it.

There isn’t a line Scott won’t cross to convince Dani to trust him so that he can help her take down a ruthless murderer who has her in his sights.

Review:

Riveting, highly suspenseful and action packed!

This is a gripping story that delves into the dangers of science and technology when it ends up in the hands of those with god-like complexes and is ultimately a roller coaster ride of secrets, lies, greed and malevolence.

The writing is flawless and fluid. The plot is well crafted, clever, and fascinating. The characters are darkly intriguing, determined, resilient, sexy and strong. And the storyline is a complex mix of clues, chaos, murder, sizzling chemistry, and steamy romance.

Honestly, I loved it. It was by far one of the best romantic suspense novels I’ve read recently and I couldn’t put it down.

This is the eleventh book in the Tracers series and even though I haven’t read any of the others in the series I am definitely going to rectify that very quickly. Pick one up. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Book Rating: 9/10

New York Times bestselling author Beatriz Williams recreates the New York City of A Certain Age in this deliciously spicy adventure that mixes past and present and centers on a Jazz Age love triangle involving a rugged Prohibition agent, a saucy redheaded flapper, and a debonair Princetonian from a wealthy family.

When she discovers her husband cheating, Ella Hawthorne impulsively moves out of their SoHo loft and into a small apartment in an old Greenwich Village building. Her surprisingly attractive new neighbor, Hector, warns her to stay out of the basement at night. Tenants have reported strange noises after midnight—laughter, clinking glasses, jazz piano—even though the space has been empty for decades. Back in the Roaring Twenties, the place hid a speakeasy.

In 1924, Geneva “Gin” Kelly, a smart-mouthed flapper from the hills of western Maryland, is a regular at this Village hideaway known as the Christopher Club. Caught up in a raid, Gin becomes entangled with Prohibition enforcement agent Oliver Anson, who persuades her to help him catch her stepfather Duke Kelly, one of Appalachia’s most notorious bootleggers.

Headstrong and independent, Gin is no weak-kneed fool. So how can she be falling in love with the taciturn, straight-arrow Revenue agent when she’s got Princeton boy Billy Marshall, the dashing son of society doyenne Theresa Marshall, begging to make an honest woman of her? While anything goes in the Roaring Twenties, Gin’s adventures will shake proper Manhattan society to its foundations, exposing secrets that shock even this free-spirited redhead—secrets that will echo from Park Avenue to the hollers of her Southern hometown.

As Ella discovers more about the basement speakeasy, she becomes inspired by the spirit of her exuberant predecessor, and decides to live with abandon in the wicked city too. . . .

Review:

Once again Beatriz Williams sweeps us away into another time and place with a storyline full of deception, lies, adultery, jealousy, love, loss, passion and murder.

The story is told from two different perspectives. Gin, a young, strong-minded woman who enjoys her independence and the love of more than one man in New York City in the Roaring Twenties when prohibition, jazz, and speakeasies are the norm.  And Ella, an intelligent, inquisitive woman who is determined to move forward after discovering her husband’s infidelity in the Big Apple metropolis of the late 1990s.

The prose is exquisite and vividly described. The characters are flawed, multi-faceted, and intriguing. And the plot is a fast-paced, complex, fascinating tale with lots of twists, turns, action and suspense that will keep you engaged until the very end.

What more can I say, I really enjoyed this novel and I can’t help but highly recommend it.

Review:

Intriguing, suspenseful and deliciously steamy!

This is the third book in the Black Ops: Automatic series, and once again Nico Rosso has written a novel full of danger, deception, mystery, attraction, chemistry, dirty talk and romance.

The writing is clear and fluent. The characters are intelligent, strong, damaged and lonely. And although the plot in the first half of the novel is a little slow, the second half is definitely more exciting, compelling and action packed.

Overall, I would have to say that this is a fun, easy read that is certainly enjoyable and entertaining.

In this dazzling debut novel about love and betrayal and redemption, a young couple moves to New York City to prove their mettle and to find success—only to learn that such success may come with dangerous strings attached.

Julia and Evan falls in love as undergraduates at Yale. For Evan, a scholarship student from a Canadian logging town, Yale is a whole new world, and Julia—blonde, beautiful and rich—fits perfectly into the future he’s envisioned for himself. After graduation, and on the eve of the great financial meltdown of 2008, they move together to New York City, where Evan takes a job at a hedge fund. But Julia, who has only known a life of privilege, feels unmoored and increasingly shut out of Evan’s secretive world.

With the market crashing and banks failing, Evan becomes involved in an increasingly high-stakes deal at work—a deal that, despite the assurance of his Machiavellian boss, begins to feel more than slightly suspicious. Meanwhile, Julia reconnects with someone from her past who offers a glimpse of a different kind of life. As Evan and Julia spin apart into their separate orbits, they each find that they are capable of much more—good and bad—that they’d ever dreamed, and that betrayal is easier than they ever imagined.

Rich with suspense and insight, Pitoniak’s thrilling debut reveals the fragile yet enduring nature of our connections to one another and to ourselves. THE FUTURES is a glittering story of a couple coming of age and a tender, searing portrait of what it’s like to be young and full of hope in a city that often seems determined to break us down—but ultimately may be the very thing that saves us.

Review:

Compelling, insightful and satisfying!

This a coming-of-age story set in New York City during the financial crisis of 2008 and follows the lives of two Yale graduates who come from completely different backgrounds as they struggle to maintain their relationship and successfully achieve all their hopes, dreams and career goals.

For me what was clear throughout the novel was the ideology that life is not predictable; it always throws you a few curve balls.

The writing is well done. The characters are young, naive and self-indulgent. And the plot is a sequence of events steeped in deception, loneliness, denial, heartache, acceptance, and forgiveness that leads each character to undergo a form of introspection to recognize what’s truly important.

Overall this is a good debut novel that will definitely resonate with many people who have also found themselves daunted after post-secondary education.

The so-bad-they’re-good alphas of hockey’s Chicago Aces are back in this emotionally charged novel of sex, love, and second chances from the bestselling author of Top Shelf and the Heller Brothers series.

Tanner Bennet hates weddings. They just remind him that he simply isn’t cut out for any kind of healthy, committed relationship—never has been, never will be. After getting rejected by the girl he thought was “the one” all those years ago, he made a huge mistake and married the wrong person. Now that the divorced heartbreaker has reluctantly agreed to be a groomsman for one of his NHL teammates, the last thing he expects is a chance at redemption with the one that got away.

After Marc Dupuis of the Chicago Aces hires wedding planner Katelyn Medford, she discovers that her big break comes with a twist: a reunion with her college sweetheart. The way she dumped Tanner still haunts her. Eight years—and three broken engagements—later, Katelyn knows she’ll never have that kind of innocent, wide-eyed passion again. Still, she and Tanner soon generate enough body heat to burn up the sheets. And even with Tanner’s career with the Aces up in the air, Katelyn’s wondering whether the time is right to let him in for real.

Review:

Fun, flirty, and smoking hot!

This is a passionate story that mixes, a hard-bodied, swoon-worthy hockey player who hasn’t had any luck finding the “one”, and a sweet, charming wedding planner who has yet to say “I Do”.

The writing is flawless. The characters are engaging, humorous, and real. And the plot is a provocative second-chance romance filled with witty dialogue, delicious chemistry, steamy tension, emotional drama, and competitive hockey.

I’m embarrassed to say this is the first Kelly Jamieson novel I’ve ever read, but I can guarantee there is already a few more of her titles added to my to read pile. I mean after all she is Canadian! Go Canada Go!

This is the fourth book in the “Aces Hockey” series and boy is it a good one. If you like sexy contemporary romances with captivating storylines this is definitely the book for you.
