From the New York Times bestselling author of The Orphan’s Tale and The Lost Girls of Paris comes a tale of sacrifice and heartbreak in the aftermath of WWII

How have I been lucky enough to come here, to be alive, when so many others are not? I should have died… But I am here.

1945. Having survived the brutality of a Nazi prison camp, Marta Nederman is lucky to have escaped with her life. Recovering from the horror, she meets Paul, an American soldier who gives her hope of a happier future. But their plans to meet in London are dashed when Paul’s plane crashes.

Devastated and pregnant, Marta marries Simon, a caring British diplomat, and glimpses the joy that home and family can bring. But her happiness is threatened when she learns of a Communist spy in British intelligence, and that the one person who can expose the traitor is connected to her past.

Review:

Moving, enthralling, and intense!

The Diplomat’s Wife is the thrilling, absorbing sequel to The Kommandant’s Girl set at the end of WWII that takes you into the life of Marta Nederman, a Polish resistance fighter who after being liberated from Dachau meets a handsome American soldier, travels to London on a borrowed visa, marries a British Diplomat, and then returns to Poland two years later on a mission that will ultimately change her life forever.

The prose is rich and vivid. The characters are brave, vulnerable, and strong. And the plot is a compelling blend of life, loss, secrets, surprises, heartbreak, betrayal, survival, danger, friendship, and romance.

Overall, The Diplomat’s Wife is a passionate, riveting, action-packed tale by Jenoff that transports you to another time and place and immerses you so thoroughly into the personalities, feelings, and lives of the characters within it that you can’t help but be fully absorbed and invested.

A three-year-old boy disappears from a public park, in full daylight, and no one sees a thing-not even the child’s mother. In a city of millions, with not a single clue left in the park for Detective Tommy Keane, the suspects could be endless. Where does he start to investigate? And what will he uncover? Are the answers on the streets he knows so well? Or hidden online, deep within the dark web?

Review:

Devious, intense, and disturbing!

In this latest novel in the Tommy Keane series, Hayden Jon Marshall, we head back to the streets of New York City where Detectives Keene and Doyle now find themselves investigating the case of a missing three-year-old boy who seems to have vanished without a trace from a local park.

The writing is taut and gritty. The characters are flawed, persistent, and methodical. And the plot, including all the subplots, unravel quickly into a menacing tale full of suspects, clues, control, power, manipulation, swirling emotions, kidnapping, violence, and careful deduction.

Overall, Hayden Jon Marshall is a twisty, action-packed, satisfying addition to what is undoubtedly turning out to be a dark, suspenseful, compelling series by the Myers siblings.

There are a few things you should know about my brother’s roommate.

Wolfie Cox is . . . complicated. Terminally sexy, and more importantly, he has an impressive stick lodged so far up his ass, he’s about as emotionally available as a chinchilla. Actually, that might be an insult to the chinchilla community.

So, naturally, I want to ride him like a bicycle.

He thinks I hate him. Mostly because I’ve led him to believe this. It’s easier than admitting the alternative.

And while Wolfie is about as soft and cuddly as a fork, I’m the opposite. A good girl. Reliable. Conscientious. Oh, and completely panicked about an upcoming work conference.

Wolfie’s usually allergic to altruism, so when my brother volun-tells him to help me out by escorting me to said conference where everyone else will have a plus-one . . . I say thanks, but no thanks. Surprisingly, Wolfie is unflinching about this. And that’s the story about how I got stuck in a hotel with my brother’s hot (grouchy) roommate.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

In all seriousness, this isn’t a game to me, and hormones aside, I need to impress my boss this week so the promotion I’ve worked hard for doesn’t get handed to his spineless nephew. But with Wolfie and me sharing a hotel bed, things get confusing quickly.

Review:

Emotive, witty, and enchanting!

My Brother’s Roommate is a passionate, cheeky tale that mixes the driven, intelligent Penelope who’s determined to do whatever it takes, even if it means fake dating her brother’s best friend, to prove she deserves the promotion at work, and the complex, vulnerable Wolfie who may finally discover he deserves love and is worthy of his best friend’s sister.

The writing is smooth and sultry. The supporting characters are engaging and fun-loving. And the plot told from dual perspectives sweeps you away into an irresistible storyline filled with witty banter, shameless flirting, red-hot chemistry, emotional moments, family, friendship, light drama, and steamy romance.

I absolutely love this Frisky Business series by Ryan. It just keeps getting better and better, and I am counting down the days until I get a chance to read Connor’s story in The Stud Next Door releasing in mid-January!

In this heartwarming second-chance romance, a woman returns home and discovers that, when it comes to finding love, there’s no place like home.

When a romance gone wrong lands reporter Dakota Jones in the pages of the tabloids, her rising star crashes and burns. Instead of getting the weekend anchor job she’d been promised, she’s promptly shown the door. Which leaves her one option: return home to lick her wounds, eat lemon meringue pie, and plot her comeback while actively avoiding the man who once broke her heart.

Dexter Roberts made a huge mistake when he walked away from Dakota, and he’s regretted it ever since. So when Dakota returns to Holly Grove Island to regroup and decide what’s next, Dex can’t pass up the opportunity to win back the love of his life. Now he just needs to convince Dakota to give him a second chance.

Review:

Cosy, lighthearted, and romantic!

Second Chance on Cypress Lane is an uplifting, charming tale that takes you into the life of the kind, heartbroken Dakota Jones who after being shattered by a scandalous affair returns home to the idyllic Holly Grove Island to rebuild her self esteem, repair old friendships, help out her widowed father, and hopefully hide from the one man who broke her heart to pieces seventeen years ago.

The writing is sentimental and warm. The characters are multilayered, supportive, and endearing. And the plot, using flashbacks to the past is an enticingly nostalgic tale full of secrets, friendship, tension, chemistry, tender moments, self-reflection, and second-chance love.

Second Chance on Cypress Lane is the first novel I’ve read by Ryan but it won’t be my last. It’s an entertaining, enjoyable, satisfying treat and I can’t wait to read what happens in this small North Carolina community next.

Secrets, desires, and exquisite pie. It’s all in a day’s work at The Company.

Growing up, I was the rough guy from the wrong neighborhood who couldn’t catch a break. Posy was the pampered girl I tried to impress. But all she gave me was a single kiss before I had to skip town.

Now I’m back, and the tables are turned. Posy runs a struggling pie shop. I’m the VP of a secretive billion-dollar security company.
Not that I can tell her.

There’s a murderer on the loose in New York, and he seems to spend a lot of time at Posy’s shop. It’s my job to identify him before he can harm a hair on her pretty head.

Going undercover as Posy’s new barista wasn’t my idea. I don’t even drink coffee. But now I have to call her “boss,” and do everything the curvy perfectionist asks of me. I’d forgotten how much we infuriate each other, and that she somehow fills me with both irritation and desire in the same breath.

There’s nobody more skilled at stealth ops than me. I can bring this killer down. Right after I take a cold shower. And just as soon I figure out how to make a skinny peppermint latte with milk poured in the shape of a kitten…

Review:

Spicy, suspenseful, and sugary sweet!

Loverboy is a sexy, playful, enemies-to-more romance featuring the competitive, handsome Gunnar Scott whose latest case finds him back in New York, working as a barista in a pastry and coffee shop, and protecting the independent, reliable, Posy Payton, the one woman he’s never quite forgotten.

The prose is smooth and sassy. The characters are charismatic, dependable, and engaging. And the plot is an irresistible blend of tension, humour, sexual innuendoes, sizzling chemistry, flirty banter, familial drama, friendship, dangerous situations, sexy times, and scrumptious treats.

Overall, Loverboy is an amusing, cheeky, entertaining tale by Bowen that is a wonderful addition to a series that is quickly becoming one of my all-time favourites. I loved the characters, I loved the storyline, and I loved the dual narration by Joe Arden and Vanessa Edwin.

In early 1853, experienced California Trail guide Virginia Reeve is summoned to Boston by a mysterious benefactor who offers her a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: lead a party of 12 women into the wild, hazardous Arctic to search for the lost Franklin Expedition. It’s an extraordinary request, but the party is made up of extraordinary women. Each brings her own strengths and skills to the expedition- and her own unsettling secrets. A year and a half later, back in Boston, Virginia is on trial when not all of the women return. Told in alternating timelines that follow both the sensational murder trial in Boston and the dangerous, deadly progress of the women’s expedition into the frozen North, this heart-pounding story will hold readers rapt as a chorus of voices answer the trial’s all-consuming question: what happened out there on the ice?

Review:

Captivating, atmospheric, and immersive!

The Arctic Fury is an emotive, absorbing novel set in the mid-1850s that sweeps you back-and-forth between a Boston courtroom where Virginia Reeve is on trial for the kidnapping and murder of socialite Caprice Collins, one of twelve women who embarked on a northern expedition to find the missing Sir John Franklin, and the icy, cold, Arctic where friendships were formed, life was lost, secrets surfaced, and past tragedies haunted.

The writing is vivid and expressive. The plot is well crafted and uses a past-present style to create tension, suspense and emotion as it unravels all the histories, personalities, and relationships within it. And the characters are unique, troubled, and scarred; with the setting, the arctic wilderness, being a character itself with its harsh weather, isolation, and physical challenges.

Overall, The Arctic Fury, loosely based on real-life events, is an intense, unique, gripping novel that reminds us that survival of any form takes unimaginable sacrifice, strength, courage, and often ethical and moral dilemmas.

How the moose (almost) stole Christmas.

Lana Montgomery is everything the quirky small town of Moose Springs, Alaska can’t stand: a rich socialite with dreams of changing things for the better. But Lana’s determined to prove that she belongs…even if it means trading her stilettos for snow boots and tracking one of the town’s hairiest Christmas mysteries: the Santa Moose, an antlered Grinch hell-bent on destroying every bit of holiday cheer (and tinsel) it can sink its teeth into.

And really…how hard could it be?

The last few years have been tough on Rick Harding, and it’s not getting any easier now that his dream girl’s back in town. When Lana accidentally tranquilizes him instead of the Santa Moose, it’s clear she needs help, fast…and this could be his chance to finally catch her eye. It’s an all-out Christmas war, but if they can nab that darn moose before it destroys the town, Rick and Lana might finally find a place where they both belong…together.

Review:

Humorous, sweet, and romantic!

Mistletoe & Mr. Right is a lighthearted, amusing tale that takes us back to small-town Alaska and into the life of the hardworking, wealthy Lana Montgomery as she juggles a demanding family, a successful career, a town determined not to like her, and an introverted pool hall owner who’s slowly stealing her heart.

The writing is tender and playful. The characters are quirky, fun-loving, and endearing. And the plot is a delightful mix of life, love, family, friendship, introspection, attraction, community spirit, hilarious mishaps, spirited shenanigans, Christmas cheer, and a moose with a dislike for holiday decorations.

Mistletoe & Mr. Right is the second title in the Moose Springs, Alaska series, and once again Morgenthaler has written a heartwarming, engaging, satisfying tale with just the right amount of heart, hope, and humour to keep me yearning for more, especially one featuring the broody, scrumptious Easton Lockett. In the tradition of the spellbinding historical novels of Philippa Gregory and Kate Morton comes a stunning story based on a real-life Tudor mystery, and of a curse that echoes through the centuries and shapes two women’s destinies…

1560: Amy Robsart is trapped in a loveless marriage to Robert Dudley, a member of the court of Queen Elizabeth I. Surrounded by enemies and with nowhere left to turn, Amy hatches a desperate scheme to escape—one with devastating consequences that will echo through the centuries…

Present Day: When Lizzie Kingdom is forced to withdraw from the public eye in a blaze of scandal, it seems her life is over. But she’s about to encounter a young man, Johnny Robsart, whose fate will interlace with hers in the most unexpected of ways. For Johnny is certain that Lizzie is linked to a terrible secret dating back to Tudor times. If Lizzie is brave enough to go in search of the truth, then what she discovers will change the course of their lives forever.

Review:

Engaging, mysterious, and immersive!

The Forgotten Sister is an intriguing time-slip novel set in England during both the sixteenth century as well as present-day and is told from two different perspectives, Amy Robsart, the wife of Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester whose untimely death is laced with suspicion and doubt, and Lizzie Kingdom, a young star who after getting mixed up in a scandal where history seems to be repeating itself uses her psychometric abilities to uncover what truly happened.

The writing is eloquent and smooth. The characters are complex, troubled, and endearing. And the plot using a past/present, back-and-forth style captivates and entertains as it sweeps you away into a suspenseful tale of life, loss, love, familial responsibility, duty, honour, betrayal, friendship, passion, mystery, and a silver of the supernatural.

Overall, The Forgotten Sister is another well-paced, creative, entertaining novel by Cornick that does a wonderful job of interweaving a satisfying blend of historical facts, compelling fiction, budding romance, and a touch of magic.
