The prose is smooth and light. The characters are friendly, welcoming, and easygoing. And the plot sweeps you away and immerses you in a fanciful tale full of friendship, family, community, hopes, dreams, love, blossoming romance, and wishes.

Secret Wishes and Summer Kisses on Lily Pond Lane is the last story in this wonderful series by Harvale. And even though it is bittersweet to say goodbye to the lovely gang we’ve come to know and love over the last eight novels it has been an absolute pleasure to be able to indulge in all the mystique, adventure, mishaps, and love that’s gone on in Little Pondale over the entire series.

The Barista’s Beloved is a sweet, entertaining tale that takes you on a journey into the life of Maeve Brennan, an intelligent, hardworking, young woman who finds herself inadvertently in need of help from the sexy, new resident to River Hill, Ben Worthington.

The prose is smooth and alluring. The characters are fun-loving, dependable, and supportive. And the plot is a playful blend of push-pull drama, flirty banter, steamy chemistry, friendship, community, and tantalizing romance.

Overall, The Barista’s Beloved is another delightfully witty, cosy tale by Norinne and Brinkley that has just the right amount of emotion, angst, and passion to make this story a quick, breezy, enjoyable read.

The writing is sincere and light. The characters are genuine, hardworking, and supportive. And the plot is a touching, dramatic tale about life, love, family, friendship, community, taking chances, starting over, and happiness.

Overall, Foxglove Farm is an uplifting, humorous read that does a beautiful job of reminding us just how important communication, trust, honesty, forgiveness, and unconditional love are to the success of a marriage. And even though it is the second book in the Love Heart Lane series, it can easily be enjoyed as a standalone novel if so desired.

Review:

Crafty, complex, and unpredictable!

Layover is a character-driven whodunit featuring the reckless and determined Joshua Fields as he throws caution to the wind and leaves his ordinary life behind to do whatever it takes to find the missing, enigmatic Morgan Reynolds who seems to have vanished into thin air after sweeping him off his feet in a bar at the Atlanta airport.

The writing is crisp and clear. The characters are impulsive, irrational, and troubled. And the plot told from two different perspectives is a menacing tale of life, love, obsession, deception, familial dynamics, desperation, violence, and murder.

I have to admit this was a really tough one for me, as even though there is no doubt that Bell can write a creative, mysterious story that some readers will absolutely love, unfortunately for me the plot was a bit too unrealistic, and the characters were a little too hard to connect to for me to enjoy Layover as much as I would have liked.

Clever, menacing, and darkly comedic!

Death of an Angel is a twisty, complex, mischievous tale that takes you into the life of pub manager, amateur sleuth extraordinaire, Danny Bird as he dreadingly gets mixed up in another case involving a suicide victim with his name on her hand, a husband with a fondness for state-of-the-art cars, and a gang of hoodlums with a penchant for money, machetes, and hounds.

The prose is witty and tight. The characterization is spot on with a whole slew of characters who are eccentric, gregarious, and sharp-witted. And the plot, including all the subplots, unravel and intertwine into an irresistible tale of deception, manipulation, greed, jealousy, corruption, mayhem, oddball mishaps, slapstick moments, violence, and murder.

Overall, Death of an Angel is so much better than I ever expected and surprising brilliant in every way. It’s an intricate, fresh, edgy mystery that not only kept me guessing and amused until the very last page but had me purchasing the first three paperbacks in the series as quickly as possible.

Well crafted, menacing, and delightfully unnerving!

Dear Wife is a suspenseful, riveting thrill ride that delves into the emotional and psychological damage caused by domestic abuse and highlights just how easily dominance, manipulation and intimidation can be masked as love.

The writing is tight and intense. The characters are resolute, secretive, and apprehensive. And the plot, told from three different POVs, builds steadily as it twists, turns, and unravels all the behaviours, motivations, relationships, and personalities within it.

Dear Wife is, ultimately, a story of obsession, deception, desperation, survival, violence, and murder. It’s creepy, shocking, unputdownable, and without a doubt one of the best psychological thrillers I’ve read this year.

The writing is sharp and smooth. The characters are quirky, charismatic, and endearing. And the plot is a delightful blend of drama, emotion, snappy dialogue, fame, fortune, stardom, tender moments, friendship, and love. 

Overall, To the Stars and Back is a warm, witty, charming tale by Isley. And even though it is the fourth title in the First Comes Love series it can easily be enjoyed and appreciated as a standalone novel.

The writing is whimsical and light. The characters are quirky, supportive, and passionate. And the plot is a laugh-out-loud funny blend of familial obligation, life, love, friendship, introspection, romance, awkward moments, embarrassing situations, and outrageous hijinks.

Overall, How to Lose a Fiancé is another sassy, sensual, amusing novel by London that has all the characteristics of a fantastic romcom, including adorable characters, a witty storyline, and the requisite swoon-worthy, happy-ever-after ending.

Relevant, vivid, and absorbing!

Summer of ’69 is a nostalgic, domestic tale that takes us back to the idyllic island of Nantucket during a year when Vietnam was still raging, and Apollo 11 was finally going to put men on the moon, and into the lives of the blended Foley-Levin family as they navigate a summer of revelations, change, and new additions.

The writing is expressive and polished. The characters are genuine, troubled, and sympathetic. And the spirited plot is a delightful mix of summer fun, heartbreak, coming-of-age, secrets, wartime worries, adultery, racial segregation, women’s rights, and fresh starts.

Overall, Summer of ’69 is once again a beguiling, heartfelt, must-read summer tale by Hilderbrand that highlights the power of family and reminds us that even though we’ve come so far, in some respects we still have a long way to go.
